About this listen

The follow-up novel to the best-selling computer game Baldur's Gate.

The heroes of Baldur's Gate set off on another action-packed adventure in this follow-up novel, based on Baldur's Gate II, the sequel to the record-setting computer RPG from Black Isle and Interplay.

As the disciples of Bhaal, the god of murder, grow in numbers and in strength, Abdel and his allies must stop the fanatical horde from resurrecting their fallen deity, or the shores of the Sword Coast will be bathed in blood.

Not quite as good as the first book, but good

This installment in the trilogy is good, but not as good as the first one. It's definitely worth going through for Drew Karpyshyn's conclusion. I kind of feel like Athens isn't as much of a developed writer for the first two Baldur's Gate novels, but he did an overall adequate job. Karpyshyn's conclusion is a major improvement on it, but this is worth a read and/or listen so that you get the full story. Again, the differences from the game breathe a new life into this series for me and made it more enjoyable for me. If I wanted it to be the same as the game, I'd play the game.

Not bad - suffers from outdated tropes

The voice acting is quite good, same as the first book in the series. Overall, this story has potential and as a recent Baldur's Gate 3 player, it's been enjoyable to learn more about the lore. However, Jaheira, a powerful half-elf Druid, only seems to do 3 things: scream, cry, or serve as motivation for the male protagonist. We learn very little else about Imowyn other than how it also relates to the male protagonist. I have nothing against male protagonists and have enjoyed many a story with them, that's not the issue. It becomes hard to invest in a story when the female or non-male characters are clearly very 2 dimensional and reduced to a caricature.

I love BG but this was super rushed.

this was really rushed. kind of light on details and story. we just jumped right to it. I feel like the author was a little lazy.

Great narrator

I liked the narrator the most. The writing should have been better as well as the pacing of the story. It’s a solid 3 1/2 stars.

Good continuation. Not great, but still worthwhile.

Not as compelling as the first, but still good... About to try out the third book in the series. The game is fun and rated as a favorite fantasy video game...

"eh" for a sequel

I guess I don't know the Shadows of Amn storyline, but this one was weird. Sex and violence in overdrive - pretty disappointing for beloved game of the past.

What’s Happening?

The narration is good. The problem is the narrator doesn’t have much to work with. The story seems to jump without any transitions whatsoever. There was a little to interest me in the outcome of any of the characters. It’s one of the few books I’ve chosen not to finish.
