Love this novel, hate the narrator.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of J. P. Linton?

Anyone. Absolutely anyone. Mr. Linton sounds like he's reading the dullest of textbooks, emotionless to the point where I returned the novel after listening less than 30 minutes.

Any additional comments?

As I stated above, I returned this book. I'm in the middle of reading a borrowed physical copy, and wanted the audiobook for my own library. How every disappointing for my first Audible book. :(

Putting the pieces together

I enjoyed the history of Comyr, the kings, and everything about this. This provided a lot of background for some of the characters I enjoy.

Linton rocks

This is an old tale for those familiar with realmslore. I tried a story I knew as my first Audible...
I already liked the story
I already liked the authors
I love fantasy/sci-fi so,
listenening while jammed in my daily commute was like a pressure relief valve and J.P. Linton makes the characters memorable, I like his reading style, perfect for a classic tale of kings, mages, dragons and kingdom shaking intrigue.

Books written of this kingdom are more meaningful now

The changing in years was a bit confusing at first, but it was tied up nicely through toward the end. The jumps in time gave an excellent understanding of why Cormyr was unique and long lasting. It also helped me understand where some of the names in the kingdom got their roots. Such as the “Purple Dragon”. As entertaining to listen to as the Elminster Series, in its own way.

Brutal narrator

I read this novel years ago. I remember enjoying it. Listening to the audio book almost killed me. The story absolutely drags. Felt like it took me weeks to finish this. The narrator is not good for this genre. He makes this so much worse than i remember. I have listened to multiple other ed greenwood books and while i think they can get slow at times, there is still some humor and a good narration. Not so for this guy or this book.

great story! lots of political intrigue.

the story was very well told, a lot of relationships, political Intrigue and tests of loyalty.

The style reminded me a bit of Game of Thrones, although not quite as descriptive as GRR Martin.

a lot of great information about life and times in cormyr.

as far as performance: the audio was not processed correctly. The mid tones were turned down leaving the bass and treble High. A lot of sibilance, requires de-essing. needed expansion on the quiet Parts. When the narrator whispered, you had to turn it almost all the way up, then he would boom his voice hurting your ears. I can't stand that!

Good for Napping

The narrator takes what is a halfway decent story and makes it an absolute bore.

Narrator

J. P. Lintons voice and tone makes the whole story non captivating. Wasted money on this one should have listened to the sample first

Terrible voice

I am tired of men trying to imitate women’s voices. Stop, it just doesn’t work. Not good acting over all anyway.
