About this listen

A classic adventure from the creator of Drizzt!

High in the Snowflake Mountains sits the Edificant Library, a place of scholarly study for priests, bards, and others. Now from the hidden vaults beneath the library a devastating curse is unleashed, and a young cleric must battle the terrifying creatures set loose by a malevolent, consuming essence that's been released, before his own brethren turn against him. Cadderly must put his studies to the test and enter the catacombs far below to save his brothers and himself.

Start here in the Forgotten Realms

What an absolutely fantastic place to start getting into fantasy literature! Wonderful pacing, lovable , and some edge of your seat cliffhangers!

Good Story Deeply Embedded im Forgotten Realms

This was an OK story by Salvatore. Not his best work, but it is deeply embedded in Forgotten Realms mythos, dipicting clerics and undead, wizards and imps, dwarves, druids, and monks... all centered around an ancient library. This focus on familiar themes and hearing the author's approach to the lore was enjoyable for me.

Unfortunately, I found unusual mistakes by an otherwise high quality performance to be distracting.

This includes:
* occasional strange pauses that place emphasis on the wrong words ("..it curved around her neck [pause] and shoulders.")
* missing pauses at "dinkas transitions", making it difficult to realize the setting or point of view has changed
* use of unusual pronunciation ("it was a culmination of his lived experiences" pronouncing lived with a hard i.)

These minor but unusual mistakes were a distraction and took away from the story flow and an otherwise strong performance by Bevine.

This is the first book of a trilogy. And while I did enjoy listening, I am not particularly motivated to listen to the continuation of the story.

Loved it

I had only met caddie when drizzt sought out his help with the seven hells. I thoroughly enjoyed this book getting a more in-depth look into his charming background.

This did not disappoint.

Salvatore's penchant for hyperbole really helps sell me on the vivaciousness of the world he's constructed.

The fight scenes tend to linger overlong, Cadderly isn't really much of a cleric so the title feels misleading, and something about his characterization as an innocent and naive youth bothers me.

An evil curse has been unleashed and no one knows!

Canticle: Forgotten Realms The Cleric Quintet Book 1

An evil curse has been unleashed upon the inhabitants of the Library which is a center of both learning and protection for the land. As the library degrades into state where almost everyone is following their most base desires with the dedication of a sociopath, a priest and a druid seem to be the only ones who haven't lost their minds. As the deaths mount, the library is being searched to find the source of the evil curse.

Unfortunately, the designer of the curse is adept at raising undead help to defend the curse. With the help of the undead and a demon conjured from the infernal plane of existence, the priest's work is deadly dangerous at best.

As the priest begins his search he finds that if he can distract people from their base desires, that he can get some help from them. With the aid of a druid, two dwarves, and martial arts master, he begins his quest to stop the evil.

I enjoyed this book.

Best Regards, Anthony

Great, but a bit slow.

The way the narrator reads, the story seems to drag by. Otherwise, a great listen.
