About this listen

Leander: A broken heart has kept me off the scene for a while now. I've devoted my time to work, books, and my fierce Santa-hating kitty named Mu-Mu. But when a soccer ball lands in my garden, my life takes a surprising turn. The British guy who kicked it tries to charm me with Hugh Grant-style fumbling and that hot accent, but I'm not playing his game.

Jake: I'm an expat working in the US. There are a few things I miss about England: my family, my mates, and the beautiful game, especially close to the holidays! I set up a team of diverse Brits so we could bond, have a game of footie, and not feel so homesick. But after a disastrous kick, the ball ends up in the garden of a stubborn American guy, and he won't give it back.

The challenge of taming Leander West could turn out to be quite a Christmas miracle!

This story is an M/M holiday romance and contains scenes of hotness!

So Clever, Furlong's Performance is Amazing!

Even when writing something as simple as a short story about two guys meeting over a lost ball, Isobel Starling's clever, smart writing style shines through in Ball Play. Witty, sweet, and very hot, I highly recommend this one in audio.

Gary Furlong is amazing with voices and accents, and his skill as a voice actor is exceptional. I especially enjoyed the passages where Leander is mimicking Jake - the American imitating the Brit is too hilarious. Furlong truly brings something special to each piece he performs, and if you haven't had a chance to check out this amazing narrator I encourage you to do so as soon as possible :)!

Short & sexy holiday story

This was a quick and easy holiday listen. It took me a bit of time to warm up to Leander and by that point the book was nearly over. I did enjoy the banter between Jake & Leander and there is a sexy date. As it takes place over about 48 hours and ends somewhat abruptly - the relationship is just getting started.

Narration:
Gary Furlong was fantastic as usual. As Jake is British and Leander American, Furlong does a wonderful job of swinging back and forth between their accents and personalities. It’s like a cast duet narration.

Great short story and really hot!

I love Gary Furlong’s audiobook performances and I especially love it when it’s one of Isobel Starling’s stories. This is a short listen but it packed quite a punch, especially when Leander and Jack got down to business (wink, wink). This is the first new English language book that Isobel has published in a while and I’m glad that she’s been able to write again. I look forward to more of her books, especially when Gary performs the audiobook.

I’m glad that I listened to this Christmas themed story. It seemed entirely appropriate for me to listen to it on Christmas Eve.
