About this listen

If you think having one dragon around messes up your life, imagine what it’s like when a second one shows up.

I’m Val Thorvald, assassin of magical bad guys and tenuous ally to the dragon lord Zav.

He still calls me a mongrel and thinks I’m a criminal, but he healed my wounds after we fought those dark elves together. That’s progress, right? Maybe one day, he’ll deign to use my name.

Not that this is my primary concern. I’m busy with a new assignment. Nin, the awesome lady who makes my magical weapons, has a werewolf problem. Specifically, sleazy loser werewolf competitors who want to drive her out of business. Or worse.

Normally, a couple of werewolves wouldn’t be a big deal, but these ones have powerful allies. And then there’s that new dragon.

It turns out he’s one of Zav’s enemies, and he wants to use me against him.

I don’t know why he’s picking on me — it’s not like I mean something to Zav — but somehow I’ve gotten stuck in the middle of dragon politics. If you think that sounds like a nightmare, you’re right.

If I can’t figure out a way to help my friend with the werewolves while keeping these dragons from tearing me apart, we’re both going to end up flatter than the deck chairs when Zav lands on the roof of my apartment building.

Pick up Battle Bond, and continue the adventure today!

Great story, good development of characters and descriptions of location, etc. Narrator is perfect. Have the next book downloaded and ready to hear.

Normally I love your books. But........

I normally love Lindsay's books, I've read almost all of them. But I'm having trouble getting into this storyline.

The storyline just seemed to be slow and repetitive. Just not the best fit for me this time. And while I like Vivienne's main character voice, many of her other characters sound too much the same. I found this very distracting at times.

Sorry Lindsay, maybe the next series. As I said I've loved all your other books.

Battle Bond fight

Author Lindsay Buroker cooks up another entertaining novel in Battle Bond, book 2 of Death Before Dragons series. We have plenty of dragons, shifters and fights. Val has to navigate through many more dilemmas while not using her inhaler. Narrator Vivienne Leheny brought all characters to life expertly, again. DRmz 3-17-23

I love Lyndsay and all of her work(s)

I laughed at Val so many times and got mad at the pompous black dragon . As with all of Lynsey”s books : the story lines are fantastic. The characters are lovable , feared . I am downloading book 3 now.
Pls forgive my broken grammar. I am partially blind
I can still listen through Audible

Yup. Good stuff.

I think I just like Lindsey Buroker's work. She makes characters that aren't just believable, they're plausible. They make mistakes, they have flaws, and they have idiosyncrasies that aren't just quirky-manic-pixie or tough-buff-bro. And if you like your romances slow burn, prepare your embers to smolder. This high-grade pining isn't just from the PNW scenery (eh? eh? c'mon).

If you like your protags scruffy but well-intentioned, you'll like this author. Same goes if you like your heroes unassuming but accidentally-world-saving. This series is "modern urban fantasy," but if you lean more towards space opera, give the Fallen Empire series a go. I'm sure I'll work my way through the rest of her work; so far, it's the best of fun tropes without all the cringe.

main character is critical underpaid

seriously she made like ten grand for dealing with a literally dragon, not worth it. (well I don't know how much her base pay is, so it's base pay plus the ten grand bonus)
