Story
McCall Richter finds criminals, con men, and deadbeats better than anyone else in the empire. She’s proud of her success and that she owns her own spaceship, especially since she struggles to understand human motivations, can’t tell when people are lying to her, and is horrible at recognizing faces. Being autistic in the empire is frowned upon—and there’s a handy normalization surgery to correct it—but she’s managed to prove her worth and avoid irking the tyrannical regime.

Story
As a commoner, Kaylina Korbian's duty is to bow to aristocrats, avoid rabble-rousers, and call the haughty royal rangers "my lord"—especially the arrogant Vlerion of Havartaft. Handsome, powerful, and a legendary swordsman, he's the last person you'd want to cross. Naturally, Kaylina irks him at their first meeting, and he arrests her. Unbeknownst to her, the city is dealing with political strife and assassinations, and the rangers are on edge. Kaylina must work with Vlerion to clear suspicion from her name, even as she unearths a dark secret about him that will either bind them together.

Star Turtle the adventure begins.
A great start to the many scrapes the crew find themselves in. Lindsay's books are my go to when I want to destress. Fun easy to get into and always leaving me wanting more. They have kept me going this pandemic.

Thanks Lindsey!
I was surprised to see this on Audible and scarfed it up when I saw it. Okay. I was hoping that Mica was still around because I really liked that character's attitude, but I was able to survive without a Mica-fix. It was a fun story. Appreciate you sharing it, and Emily Woo Zeller is a solid narrator. Thanks again!

Not for me
The plot moved along smoothly and the story was told well but the mix of sci-fi, fantasy and wizards along with a very unlikeable main character (Elaina) proved to be the downfall of this story.

Cute but irritating narration
the story was ok, but the narrator whines. She whines to distraction and ruins everything.

Younger MCs makes this too millennial
The prequel kicks off a new series with Jelena, daughter of the MCs from the Fallen Kingdom series.
That series was already on the shallow side, skewing more towards space opera than gritty sci-fi.
With Jelena and Eric being younger, and the “cute” fixation Jelena has with animals (her being a budding cat-lady or liking ships based on what animal shape they have), this felt like it was dipping past my YA threshold into tweenage book territory. While not terrible, these two kiddos just didn’t do it for me.
