About this listen

When Delia chose to major in archaeology, she imagined herself as the female Indiana Jones of the Southwest. She didn't imagine herself crawling through abandoned mine shafts, scrounging for rusty pickaxes and gold pans to sell on auction sites, but Indiana Jones didn't have to make student loan payments.

Scouring the mountains of Arizona with Simon, her best friend and computer geek extraordinaire, Delia dreams of turning their scavenging enterprise into a legitimate business. More, she longs to earn the respect of peers who shun her for turning into a treasure hunter. What she doesn't dream of is stumbling across a decapitated body in an old mine near Prescott.

Something dangerous has come to the mountains, and two Harley-riding strangers are the only ones who seem to have a clue. They speak a language Delia has never heard and carry mysterious artifacts she's never seen. Investigating these strangers might lead her to discoveries that change the face of archaeology forever.... Or it might lead her and her best friend into a deadly monster's lair.

overall decent, but read like the author wasn't familiar with the area and local language. Javelin is pronounced hah-veh-lee-nah. but at least they didn't try saguaro, or Tempe. lol

not what I was used by her, but not bad.

I love Lindsay Buroker and have probably listened to at least one book on each of her series. I will probably fall into a really small group of people that didn't really enjoy this book. Don't get me wrong all the elements I love about Lindsay Buroker's writing were present but for some reason this listen was a bit tedious.

I get the treasure hunting bit. I even get the struggling newbie treasure hunting bit and the constant hustle and pressure to make it big. What I don't get is why the group keeps throwing themselves in the path of the big bad knowing full well that they are under prepared to deal with it? I guess, the idea is that if they get the scoop then their business will boom. For a group of people who seem to always think of doing the right thing, they have no qualms walking all over victims and possible allies in order to make it big. This pattern continues for 3/4ths of the book. I kept listening because I love the author and hoped that by the end the book would be worth while which it does to a point... Sadly, this one is not for me.

..not for me

Loved EVERY character!! I'm truth, it was hard going through the while day trying not to pause. It would have helped if hadn't started late in night. Exciting as it was, hated it came to an end. I already got 1.5 and book two. Is there romance in the future? Yeah, every character was as important as the heroines of the story. Simon too ;) I had been trying to complete other books related to the Fallen Empire. I had to check out Kindle Worlds. I hadn't planned to start reading this series until I completed another collection from the author's pen name. One thing I love, it's the excitement of the action, the detailed descriptions of locations; without putting you to sleep. It's as if you'd already been there, and can see it in your mind. I didn't like some of the reviews I had read, after finishing this novel. Best way is to read the author's book summary. As for me, this might be another favorite series. Already was before half way through story. I hope there's more coming after book 2!! It's been a great adventure!!

Please give us more!! 💘

Very very good.

Narration was not so good and the storyline a bit immature but enough meat to give a listen to the second book in the series. If the second book is not any better than this then I will be done with it.
