About this listen

They are an unstoppable force of mercenaries from every known Terran planet in the Galaxy. They have little in common, other than their love of wealth and adventure, and a bitter hatred for each other. Known simply as the Black Legion, they will blaze a trail of death and destruction that will be remembered for generations.

For Xenophon, the Black Legion is an escape from the state that tried to kill him and his family. Exiled from his homeworld he joins the mercenaries, along with Glaucon, the rich playboy, Roxana, the veteran naval commander, and Tamara, the blue-haired castaway with a hidden past and a violent personality. Nothing will prepare them for the carnage awaiting them as they enter the borders of the Median Empire, the largest and most powerful entity in the known Galaxy, ruled with an iron fist by the tyrant, Emperor Artaxerxes and his legions of slave soldiers.

The Black Legion boasts the best weapons, armor, and equipment known to humanity. As well as the most advanced warships ever constructed, from frigates and battleships to the four mighty Titans. These great floating fortresses house thousands of warriors inside their cavernous armored hulls. These mercenaries are no heroes; they are exiles, thieves, opportunists, and criminals. Each looking to make their name in the greatest enterprise in living memory, a military operation deep into the heart of the Empire.

Political suspense and intrigue!

Battle for Cilicia
Star Legions Book 1
By: Michael G. Thomas
Narrated by: Ian Gordon
Series: Star Legions, Book 1
This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary. This book has plenty of battle action, political suspense, and intrigue. The story plot and characters were ok. I know a lot of people like the style of writing this author uses but it just wasn't for me. I found it a cross between a news article of a battle and fiction. I am not saying it's bad, some like the military type feel but not me. I love space opera but like the snarky comments and ship falling apart, scruffy crew with the love/ hate relationship. This book is too nice and tidy. 😁 ( Except the bar scene, I liked that! More of that!)

Battles are great, politics need work.

The battles we're great, good detail but not too much. I feel this book is really a builder for the other books. Narrator is decent but not the best.

and unimaginative, aimless, pointless pile of..

The story starts nowhere, and goes nowhere...The first few chapters are a monologue by the author on democracy vs. autocratic rule. The rest of the book consist of what passes here as action, punctuated by many pages of pointless dribble. The narrator must feel the same way since he just drones on paragraph after paragraph of this pile of manure labeled as a book. I struggled through 2/3 of the book, but couldn't stomach the last 4 chapters. By then I had realized this so called book is not going anywhere!
