About this listen

In the second book of The Fancy Lives of the Lear Sisters trilogy, a former beauty queen’s perfect life comes crashing down…but unexpected love may lift her right back up.

To the outside world, former Miss Texas Rebecca Lear has the perfect life - until her husband leaves her for another woman. Now Rebecca’s life is a perfect mess, one she’s determined to dig herself out of without a cent of her overbearing father’s money. She heads to Austin to start anew, volunteering for a friend’s political campaign to bulk up her nonexistent résumé. Only Rebecca never counted on working with a hotshot attorney who makes her see red - and feel sexier than she has in years.

When Matt Parrish agreed to help out with his former fraternity brother’s campaign, he wasn’t signing up to babysit a former beauty queen. True, he can’t deny she’s beautiful…and sweet and funny and smarter than anyone gives her credit for. But men like Matt don’t fall in love with women like Rebecca Lear. No matter how hot the passion burning between them…

lved Beauty Queen

I really enjoyed that the heroine was not made out to be a super smart person disguised as a beauty queen. Even her success in politics was not made super special but believable. Had JL done otherwise, it would have ruined it for me. But this book made both the hero and heroine real with real issues and shortcomings. A very well written book and a definite must read.

You Have to Love a Man that Appreciates Beauty

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I buy many books just because Natalie Ross reads them. Dialogue ok on this #2 book, but I had better expectations from the description. Needs more humor, ok stab at it, but it is thrown in and needs better flow. Book #1 was the same way and the bases of this series was good. If not for Ms Ross, I would not have purchased.

Would you be willing to try another book from Julia London? Why or why not?

No, as I have maybe have 5 since Ms Ross reads them, but this is just not my kind of author. No more. On her outline to editor maybe good, but her execution just seems on a downer. I want an up lifting story, not just at the end when girl gets her man.

What about Natalie Ross’s performance did you like?

Her male voice is "dreamboat" like, just plain sexy.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

Our hero is a dreamboat, and ms ross makes him so,but too much whoa is me on the heroine's part is not my idea of a good listen.

Any additional comments?

If you are J London fan, then this series is very good. She just is not the author for me

Meh Ok, not as good as the first book

This installment is about the live of the middle sister Rebecca Lear. Rebecca is former Ms. Texas 1990 and has been a doormat pretty much her whole life. Rebecca finds herself in a state of soul searching after her husband Bud Reynolds of 14 years leaves her for another woman. Rebecca who quit college to become a wife has never held a job before and finds herself in need of a backbone and job skills. Rebecca is approached by a friend of Bud, Tom Masters who seeks her help on his campaign for lieutenant governor, but she learning that he is really after her beauty queen status and her father's connections. The reason I gave the book an average rank is because it is a political setting and I really couldn't stand it, I got the sense the author was sneaking in her own political views, which is fine, her book she can do what she wants, but at the same time you might put a lot of readers off because of it. The second reason is that I couldn't relate that much to Rebecca and her issues, its hard to feel compassion for an ex-beauty queen that had everything handed to her. Just not a relatable character for me.

I would say get the book if its on sale, and save the credit for a better book.

Cute story

While I liked the narrator in the first story, she is now getting on my nerves. Every time the writer says so and so laughs, the narrator goes ha ha and I want to throw my phone at the wall.

Other than that and the fact that the Lear Sisters appear to be self important snobs, I like the books and the character growth.

MissInformed

Narration was great,Natalie had her job cut out for her with all the different characters, she was very good with keeping pace and staying on point.Thought the story was well rounded.Single mother trying to find her niche in the world, gets carried away in the political world.Meeting interesting new people, having a few dogs or five and finding love all over again.Things got a bit frustrating with the pair of love birds and the ending was a bit out there, otherwise a good story.

Another good one in series

Beauty Queen the second book is just great. I loved Material Girl so purchased this book and I think it is even better. Loved Rebecca and Mat and how the story panned out.

I have purchased the next book but have not read that yet if it is as good as the first two it will be great.

Well worth a read.
