Story
When facing contentious issues such as screen time, food choices, and bedtime, children often act out or shut down, responding with reactivity instead of receptivity. This is what New York Times best-selling authors Daniel J. Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson call a No Brain response. But our kids can be taught to approach life with openness and curiosity. When kids work from a Yes Brain, they’re more willing to take chances and explore. They’re more curious and imaginative. They’re better at relationships and handling adversity.

Feelings are not meant to be pushed down or dismissed. Here’s how to make sure your kids know what to do with theirs: If you’re like most parents, one of your primary concerns about your child, aside from their health and safety, is how you can prepare them for adulthood. Qualities associated with emotional intelligence, are a greater predictor of future success than having a high IQ and are very often overlooked. Fortunately, emotional intelligence is something that can be taught and developed, and the ideal time to do it is while your kids are still young.

Onward tackles the problem of educator stress, and provides a practical framework for taking the burnout out of teaching. Stress is part of the job, but when 70 percent of teachers quit within their first five years because the stress is making them physically and mentally ill, things have gone too far. Unsurprisingly, these effects are highest in difficult-to-fill positions such as math, science, and foreign languages, and in urban areas and secondary classrooms - places where we need our teachers to be especially motivated and engaged.

Story
One day, third-grade teacher Kyle Schwartz asked her students to fill in the blank in this sentence: "I wish my teacher knew _____." The results astounded her. Some answers were humorous; others were heartbreaking; all were profoundly moving and enlightening. The results opened her eyes to the need for educators to understand the unique realities their students face in order to create an open, safe, and supportive place in the classroom. When Schwartz shared her experience online, #IWishMyTeacherKnew became an immediate worldwide viral phenomenon.

Story
Many of us know we're putting too much pressure on our kids - and on ourselves - but how do we get off this crazy train? We want our children to succeed, to be their best, and to do their best, but what if they are not on board? A few years ago, Ned Johnson and Bill Stixrud started noticing the same problem from different angles: even high-performing kids were coming to them acutely stressed and lacking any real motivation. Many complained that they had no real control over their lives.

It's about becoming a better parent
A well researched "how to" help your child become the best they can be. Loaded with tons of common sense ideas and structured exercises. Overall an excellent resource for anyone wanting to do a better job of helping their children prepare for the world “out there”. Obviously great information, but you may enjoy the narration at about 1.2 speed.

Great resource to improve your kid's skills
Enjoyed this audiobook that outlines a number of ways to improve your kid's skills in several important areas of development. I think that nurturing these skills through the instruction of this audiobook will lead to your child being gifted. I really appreciated that the book goes well beyond just focusing on intelligence. Reading and social skills are discussed as well as creativity, problem-solving, emotional intelligence and even money management. I highly recommend this audiobook for parents with kids between 5 - 10 years old.

Quick yet powerful tool for parenting
This was a very influential hour of time committed to helping our kiddos.
Two points that really stood out and that were going to dig deeper at were specifically the problem solving skills, and improving emotional intelligence.
It’s easy to avoid letting the child work through a problem because they throw a fit or because life is busy so it’s easier to just fix the problem, but I know if we are patient and let them work through the problems it will help them immensely down the road.

Finally! A great resource to the rescue!
There is so much misinformation out there when it comes to the correct steps to raising your kids. The amount of pitfalls and potential negative outcomes of not doing things the right way can be grave. Tony Omens’ powerful approach to this often misunderstood topic is a breath of fresh air in a world of confusion. Parents, grab this title!

This book really Gets It!
I find myself listening to a lot of child development books. I have a smart, ahead of his peers in school, Son, who is also quite challenging to manage. I was raised by a strong “do as I say or face the belt” type upbringing, but I remember vividly how I felt and my vow to do different but find myself struggling with the same emotions when I am challenged. My Child is Gifted! So finding this “Becoming a gifted child” was such a blessing. I feel like the author must have camped out in my house unobserved and touches on almost all the challenges we face currently. It goes through reading skills improvement, social skills, emotional maturity. This one “emotional maturity” has been our biggest challenge as he is ahead of most peers, ends up being the youngest in an entire grade. This alone is worth its information in Gold. So much more. This book is for those parents with Gifted kids, I would say, as this really spoke to me. I highly recommend this book. One thing I did not like was the narrators' voice and intonation. My wife thinks I’m just biased to female voice while she loves it. Download this book and see what I mean.

The right steps in teaching your child
I remember growing up as a child in elementary school and having friends who were in the gifted program. I just figured they were lucky enough to be so smart and that was their reward. While some kids are just naturally smarter than others, I do believe this skill can be taught. This book has the right steps to teach my child ( and yours ) to help them become gifted. It's actually quite simple if you follow the steps. Who wouldn't want their child to excel in life? Learning is crucial between the ages of 5 and 10. Their minds are just beginning to understand and retain what they have learned.
I know my parents did the best they could. I was never without. Loved unconditional. My dad was a professor at a local college at the time. But, nothing I learned stuck with me. I was on the verge of being placed in special ed classes. My best friend ( who is a doctor now ) was gifted. Maybe If my parents had this book to guide them, I would have excelled more in my life. I am in Nursing school now and turns out I'm pretty smart. It just took me a while to get here. Sometimes, children need help, help that great parenting can't provide. I'm grateful that this book has been written to help me lead my child on the right path.
