Publisher's summary

All teens need help preparing for the adult world. For parents of an ADHD teen, additional navigation is essential.

The average human brain isn’t fully developed until around the age of 25. That’s already seven years into adult life. When you consider the neuro differences between a typical brain and an ADHD brain, your teen may have greater developmental challenges. Think of how hard it is to sit down and dedicate time to your budget or to find a moment to stay on top of household chores. When the world gives you (an adult) problem after problem, it’s almost impossible to control your emotions. But you know how to manage your impulses, your focus, and your time. Does your teen? However, the support for parents who need to teach their teens complete independence is extremely limited. Until now!

In this companion for adults with ADHD teens, here is just a fraction of what you will discover:

  • What ADHD feels like for a teen but how this doesn’t have to stop them from becoming self-empowered adults
  • How to get teens to use their senses and get excited about cooking before flying the nest
  • Techniques to support teens when they are feeling stressed, anxious, or angry
  • Ten ways for teens to get better at time management,
  • How teens can start managing their money before they get into financial trouble
  • And much more….

All children are unique and each child will go through the teenage years differently. The exact same can be said for teens with ADHD. Take it from someone who knows!

You don’t have to go through this feeling like you are alone. From personal experience and with the right advice, you can be a rock for your teen, improve your relationship, and prepare them for an amazing life.

If your teen is desperate for even the slightest extra hand, then you need this audiobook today!

Perfect for parents or caregivers

Teens with ADHD often act unusually in small ways, which can go undetected by their caregiver. Yet small missteps can be significant in the larger picture and have far-reaching effects. This audiobook gives real life examples of the challenges parents or caregivers can encounter on a daily basis. Useful strategies are provided for how to raise your kid who has ADHD. A must-have for parents or caregivers.

Compassionate, Helpful Book for Parents

I loved this audiobook! As you might imagine from the title, it is chock full of ideas that you can use to help prepare your ADHD teen with the life skills they will need after they leave the nest. Topics range from cooking/nutrition to finance/money to personal hygiene to cleaning. One of the final chapters is on emotional self-regulation. You definitely get a sense that the author has "been there, done that" with his own ADHD teen. While I adore all the helpful insights this book has, what really makes the book a cut above others written on this topic is the compassion, understanding, and acceptance that shine through in every word and phrase. You’ll find no blame and shame here, for either parent or child, but instead loving kindness as the author guides the parent about how to help their teen through potential landmines both now and when they live on their own. Excellent narrator as well. Highly recommended!

A great source of information!

The books is very easy to follow. Beginner friendly. I got interested in understanding ADHD because of a books I've read wherein the character was diagnosed with ADHD at an early age. The book is a great resource especially for those who wants to better understand children with ADHD. It tells you a lot about the struggle, how to keep up and tips on how to better help your teen with just about everything (hygiene, social skills, etc.). A lot of parents and caregivers would surely appreciate this book just like how I do. Highly Recommend!!

Informative and helpful!

This book has so much valuable information when it comes to ADHD and how it affects adolescents. What I loved the most about this book were the techniques to help teens when dealing with emotions of stress, anxiety, and anger. I found them easy to apply to daily life, and not just for teens with ADHD, these techniques can be applied to kids, teens, and even adults.
I highly recommend this book to everyone!

Great information for everyone to know

To help teens with ADHD prepare for life while having a healthy relationship with them, this book offers a variety of approaches. The problems of parenting an ADHD child are numerous, but this book explains what to anticipate and how to approach these difficulties step by step. Kids with ADHD are now prevalent, and medicating them is the main focus. Nobody discusses additional ways you can assist these children with you. This book fills that gap. I endorse this.

Wow, a great help

This is like a toolbox to help with ADHD children. I’ve learned a lot. It’s a constant struggle to keep up with the research and how to help. This book laid it out well and easy to follow. A simple push in the right direction. The chapters I found most helpful were keeping healthy and building confidence. Another good one was home maintenance. Awesome resource.

I suspected my teen was ADHD and now I know!

This described her outbursts and spoke to her overwhelm. The book was written in such a kind and thoughtful manner it was almost comforting. While I cannot put to use a lot of what was covered in this book because she mostly lives at her Mom's, I cannot wait to share what I learned with her so she can experiment and see which suggestions in this book work FOR her. It will serve her so much to learn a way of organizing and keeping her important things. Thanks for writing this book!

Excellent Resource!

“Life Skills for Your ADHD Teen” by Kenneth Harvey is an exceptional guide for parents with ADHD children or caregivers who help aid with ADHD children. Harvey touches on crucial life skills that teens with ADHD will have a harder time managing and maintaining throughout their lives. It’s already difficult for healthy teens to regulate emotions and focus on self-care, so just imagine the level of difficulty it is for teens with ADHD and anxiety.

This audiobook carries a very supportive tone for parents and caregivers, offers genuine advice, and has its best interest in providing the essential skills your teen needs to be successful in life. Aside from self-care and regulating emotions, Harvey also touches on life lessons such as time management, organizational skills, money management, social skills, and health skills. I appreciate Harvey’s insight and knowledge and sharing his wisdom in his book. Having 3 teen nephews with ADHD, I found this book extremely helpful and enjoyable.

Very Useful Resource

I'm so glad I got this one. I have family that is dealing with similar issues and this is almost a right on time kind of moment for me. Some of what has been touched on in this book I've been applying and offers support what I'm going through with this. It makes me feel a little less alone in the matter. Just remember, what works for some may not work for others.

Supporting your Teens with ADHD

It’s hard enough being parents of teens, let alone a teen with ADHD. This audiobook book provides excellent insights into what the child is going through and how to help them. Parenting a child with ADHD has its challenges, but this book outlines what to expect and how to handle these challenges one step at a time. Sure! You can listen to your doctors/therapist, but at the end of the day, you’re the one that takes care of your child and knows how to best deal with them.

This book shares different techniques to assist kids with ADHD to prepare them for life while maintaining a healthy relationship with them. I could tell that the author is well experienced when dealing with a kid with ADHD.

Definitely, a must-have!
