Publisher's summary

From the best-selling author of Suddenly Royal comes the first in a sparkling new series about America's favorite royal: the first daughter.

Everyone makes mistakes, especially in college. But when you're the daughter of the president of the United States, any little slipup is a huge embarrassment. Maddie McGuire's latest error in judgment lands her in police custody, giving the press a field day. Agreeing to do community service as penance and to restore her tattered reputation, Maddie never dreams incredibly good-looking but extremely annoying vice president's son Jake Simmon will be along for the ride.

Recently returning from Afghanistan with a life-altering injury, Jake is wrestling with his own demons. He doesn't have the time or patience to deal with the likes of Maddie. They're like oil and water, and every time they're together it's combustible. But there's a thin line between love and hate, and it's not long before their fiery arguments give way to infinitely sexier encounters.

When Jake receives devastating news about the last remaining member of his unit, the darkness he's resisted for so long begins to overwhelm him. Scared to let anyone close, he pushes Maddie away. But she isn't about to give up on Jake that easily. Maddie's fallen for him, and she'll do anything to keep him from the edge as they both discover that love is a battlefield, and there are some fights you just can't lose.

Cute, But Predictable.

What did you love best about Bedmates?

The story touches on some serious issues of PTSD.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

1st off, the narration was awkward. I felt as is Maddie was drunk the 1st half of the book until I got used to the breathy and almost too smooth narration. It just seemed forced and unnatural.

Any additional comments?

I loved that this book tied in other characters from the Royals Series. I loved those books, and I loved getting to know them a little bit more with their daughter in the picture.

A great American Fairytale.

Bedmates is a sweet tale of the “American Royalty”, the President’s daughter Maddie and the Vice President’s son Jake. While this book has its very hot moments, it is filled with sincere, serious and heartbreaking ones too.

Jake broke my heart and melted it at the same time. It was gut wrenching what he went through. I love what Nichole did with his story, it made it more emotional and made me love him even more.

I love stories about royalty, and this one is no different. It’s the perfect American Fairytale, a great first in a series I can’t wait to read more of.

Not as good as Suddenly Royal Series

This book wasn’t bad. It was written well enough. Characters are about the same as what you expect from author Chase. I can’t honestly ever tell her characters apart. All you do is change the name from book to book and you have basically the same person. Same female and male lead. Same parental figures. Same cute toddler/kid saying funny things for laughs... Same younger siblings...

This story plot line was a LOT darker than the Suddenly Royal plot lines. This one dealt with PTSD and broken families. I picked up this book needing a light read with a happy ending. I was not expecting such a dark and depressing book. Granted it is a new series, but I did not get the dark vibe from the plot preview I read.

Narrators were ok. Male voice was better than the female’s. Her way of narrating is very serious. She has a husky deep voice, and it sounded anxious the entire time, even in scenes that were supposed to be happy. It made me have a hard time liking Madi with such a depressive narrator. I thought it made the story a bit darker than needed.

I probably won’t read/listen to the next book in this series. Just not for me.
