Publisher's summary

In the cornfields of Nebraska a woman is found murdered, strung up on a pole, the victim of a deranged killer. It doesn't take long for the police to realize a serial killer is on the loose - and that his spree has just begun.

Detective Mackenzie White, young, tough, smarter than the aging, chauvinistic men on her local force, finds herself called in grudgingly to help solve it. As much as the other officers hate to admit it, they need her young, brilliant mind, which has already helped crack cold cases that had left them stumped. Yet even for Mackenzie this new case proves an impossible riddle, something the likes of which she - and the local force - have ever seen.

With the FBI called in, together, an intense manhunt ensues. Mackenzie, reeling from her own dark past, her failed relationships, and her undeniable attraction to the new FBI agent, finds herself battling her own demons as her hunt for the killer takes her to the darkest places of her mind. As she delves into the killer's mind, obsessing over his twisted psychology, she finds that evil truly does exist. She only hopes it will not be too late to extricate herself from it, as her entire life collapses around her.

As more bodies turn up dead and a frantic race against time ensues, there is no way out but to find him before he kills again.

Wrong Narrator

The story and characters were excellent. It was hard to listen to a book that takes place in America, yet everyone has a British accent. The Narrator has a great voice. It was just weird.

excited for a new series

I enjoyed the story but the narrator had an English accent and the story takes place in the Midwest so that was a little difficult sometimes but over all I enjoyed it.

British accent in Nebraska territory?? Really?

I've listened to this narrator in other books n was ok, but this one just doesn't suit. The story takes place in Nebraska, US. The British accent throws off the believability of the story. Confusing. Is the location In UK or US?. The author also portrays a disfunctioning and inept police force. Not worth the time

Exciting story

Blake Pierce and Elaine Wise make a great team. The story is well written and well narrated. A detective deals with a serial killer who thinks he’s saving the world from sin. Detective White is trying to stop him while her colleagues in the force underestimate her for being a young, female agent. Jealousy or sexism? Either way, White proves them all wrong.

A well-written thriller!

This book is a well-written thriller taking place in Nebraska corn country. And, it was hard to put down. The strange part is that it is narrated and voiced characters all have British accents. Nevertheless the concept possesses an excellently written murder mystery, one that will keep a reader guessing through the end. Enjoy!

Before He kills

This murder mystery is really entertaining! It is told from the perspective of a young woman detective on a police force that mostly doesn't value female cops.

I loved it

It is a very well written book and although the narrator is British, I feel she still did an amazing job. I loved her accent even if the characters are all American.

Unexpected accent

This book is set in Nebraska. Why is the narrator British??? The story is a good read but all the characters have British accents. Very unlikely in Nebraska.
