About this listen

She looked alive, her hair drifting freely in the water, her red lips gently parted, as if to let her final breath escape. A small locket floated by her face, attached to her neck with a silver chain....

When Detective Kay Sharp first left Mount Chester - population 3,823 - in her rear-view mirror, she promised never to look back. The town only contained bad memories and dark secrets. But when a brutal crime surfaces, she finds herself home once more, and this time, she’s not going anywhere.

Kay is called to Blackwater River, where the body of a 17-year-old girl has been found. Surrounded by snowy peaks and a forest alive with the colors of fall, the victim floats in the water, a hand-carved locket around her neck.

The locket seems strangely familiar. Digging into cold cases, Kay discovers that three-year-old Rose Harrelson was wearing it when she vanished 14 years ago. In the middle of the night, the little girl’s bedroom - with Mickey Mouse on the wall and a hanging baby mobile - was suddenly empty. The unsolved case still haunts the town.

But the teenager they have found has been dead for only a few hours. If the girl in the river is Rose, where has she been? Who has been hiding her all these years? Kay knows she must solve the kidnapping in order to untangle the mystery of the dead body.

Then Kay receives a shocking call. The dead girl has been identified - and she’s not Rose. So why is she wearing the locket, and what happened to the missing child from all those years ago? As Kay unearths a web of lies and deceit spun for decades, the close-knit community will never be the same. And Kay will find herself facing a truly terrifying killer....

A totally gripping pause-resister that should come with a health warning! Be warned: you’ll lose sleep and your heart will race like crazy as you listen to twist after twist. Perfect for fans of Lisa Regan, Robert Dugoni, and Kendra Elliot.

I enjoyed this one even more than the first one I think. It was neat how we got to see the perspective from different points of views and we never really knew what was going on so it made me not want to put the book down because I needed to know. I hope detective Kay and Elliot end up together. I highly recommend

Once again it's the same awful narrator. if it wasn't that the story kept you hooked. I wouldn't have finished it.

Welcome back to the sleepy town of Mount Chester, CA where former FBI profiler, Kay Sharp, now a detective with the PD, is about to investigate the murder of young girl. Meanwhile, her partner, Detective Elliott Young is searching from a missing girl. Lots of twists in this story! Kay is a very likable character and I’m looking forward to seeing if her relationship with Elliot will go anywhere.

Great detective-profiler story

Loving the series

I am enjoying this series. I am always guessing and putting things together but then there are always twists.
Well sometimes the twists result in bathos like when a bunch of pretty wild details are revealed in the big confession scene. I actually chuckled… also sometimes the characters are just too stupid…”Saying I’ll keep you safe” then leaving their curtains open at night where one of the villains gets a full view of the drama.
And still I wonder why these heroines all have harrowing origin stories with sordid abuse than no one ever notices. That’s getting old.

Nice series

The book is great, great story, character development, suspense, intrigue; checks all the boxes in what makes a crime thriller a great book. The narration though makes me cringe. The narrator’s baby voice for any woman except the main character is grating at best. You can hear what sounds like smiles in the narrator’s voice at inappropriate times. Regular speed is unbearable and 1.2 speed is better, but I was dismayed to see she is the narrator for almost all of Leslie Wolfe’s books… cringe.

I downloaded all the KU books available so that I only have to listen while driving.

The Narrator Though….
