Publisher's summary

A gripping, suspenseful crime novel.

Detectives Laura Baxter and Jack Holt are members of the elite: Las Vegas Metro PD, one of the toughest and most respected law enforcement agencies in the United States. In the middle of a city with two million residents and 43 million annual visitors, they’re hunting for a killer.

The crime: audacious.

At the heart of a glamorous Las Vegas hotel, in front of hundreds of witnesses and under the lenses of countless video surveillance cameras, a young girl is brutally murdered. What promises to be a quick and easy investigation soon becomes a nightmare. The most recorded crime in Vegas is missing one key protagonist, the killer.

The forensics: stupefying.

A crime-scene fingerprint unleashes dozens of unsettling questions instead of providing answers. Was this a murder for hire? In the politically-charged case, the scenario seems plausible; the victim’s secret life could’ve been the obstacle in an ambitious politician’s path. As the investigation unspools the well-concealed secrets surrounding the girl’s life, Baxter and Holt attract the attention of someone desperate to keep history’s terrible secrets buried.

The truth: shocking.

A testimony from beyond the grave turns into a death warrant for the two unrelenting detectives. While they expose a connection with the victim’s distant past that could hold the key to catching her killer, they must learn to rely on each other to survive.

Two mavericks don’t make a team. Baxter and Holt trust each other with their lives, only not with their darkest secrets.

Fans of James Patterson, David Baldacci, Karin Slaughter, and Robert Dugoni will be engrossed in this un-pause-able police procedural that will keep you listening until the break of dawn.

This is the first book I have read by Leslie Wolfe

This is the first book I have read by Leslie Wolfe. It was a good read and well written. The book kept me engaged, but not necessarily on the edge of my seat in suspense. I do plan to read a few more in this series, as it was enjoyable.

Exceptional!!

This is a great series. I had trouble putting them down. I hope Leslie Wolfe adds more to this series. I normally don't buy books and mainly just read the free ones. These were definitely worth buying. I'll probably reread them.

Leslie Wolfe nails another one!

Las Vegas Girl by Leslie Wolfe is a suspense story about a high profile murder case that has been assigned to two newly partnered detectives, Laura Baxter and Jack Holt. While intense pressure is placed on them to solve this case, every avenue they try to investigate develops a roadblock. Is there someone high up in power who doesn't want the true murderer brought to justice?

Leslie Wolfe has become one of my very favorite authors. I have bought every one of her titles and now pre order them as soon as I learn of them. She fills them with well developed characters, good descriptions and suspenseful plots with surprising but realistically seeming developments. This book was no exception. We get the story as the investigation is evolving. There is no moment when something is seemingly thrown in just to make a wanted outcome. Everything seems to follow a logical course.

Susan Marlowe narrates the book with a voice that is pleasant to the ear. As Laura Baxter is British she does give her an accent that for me took a little time to get accustomed to. I did not find the voice to appear to be digitized or from a computer as some have said. The story was mostly told as though Laura is reporting the events and Ms. Marlowe narrates it in a matter of fact manner. Her style definitely suited this book.

I greatly enjoyed listening to and appreciate that I was gifted this copy as now I can read and/or listen to Las Vegas Girl whenever I want to revisit which I can assure you I will. Should Ms. Wolfe decide to write more Baxter/Holt stories, I will be eagerly awaiting them.

This review is given voluntarily and the opinions in it are my own.

It is unlikely. I have read other books by this author and enjoyed them.
