Publisher's summary

Four sisters face new beginnings in this heartfelt modern take on Little Women by New York Times best-selling author Virginia Kantra.

Amy March is more like her older sister Jo than she'd like to admit. An up-and-coming designer in New York's competitive fashion industry, ambitious Amy is determined to get out of her sisters' shadow and keep her distance from their North Carolina hometown. But when Jo's wedding forces her home, she must face what she really wants...and confront the One Big Mistake that could upend her life and forever change her relationship with Jo.

Gentle, unassuming Beth grew up as the good girl of the family. A talented singer-songwriter, she's overcome her painful anxiety to tour with country superstar Colt Henderson. But life on the road has taken its toll on her health and their relationship. Maybe a break to attend her sister's wedding will get her out of her funk. But Beth realizes that what she's looking for and what she needs are two very different things....

With the March women reunited, this time with growing careers and families, they must once again learn to lean on one another as they juggle the changes coming their way.

Critic reviews

"Kantra (Meg and Jo) continues her delightful 21st-century retelling of Little Women.... Kantra’s compulsively readable update will attract a whole new group of readers, as well as satisfy Alcott devotees." (Publishers Weekly)

"Under the pen of veteran novelist Virginia Kantra, a sequel to the sequel of Little Women is as timely and important today as was the original in 1868." (MountainTimes.com)

Beth and Amy

I read both books by this author (Meg and Jo) and I loved them both. I also know the characters in a more grownup way now - modernized. If you love reading about strong women, you will love this book also.
Read both… 😊

Amazing modern Little Women story

The emotion the author uses to paint the characters is incredible, and her descriptions poetic. I felt the hardships and battled the inner demons right along with the characters. The bond of family and the supporting cast were incredibly touching. Little Women has always been my favorite novel.

Amy and Beth was faithful to the original beloved story, just as Meg and Jo was.

I loved the relationships between the sisters that still ring true in a modern retelling.

Little Women reimagined

First of all I have read Little Women a dozen times over the past 45 years and watched movie versions as well. The book Beth and Amy offered insight into the lives of those long ago versions as well as being contemporary and relevant. The book and it’s prequel Meg and Jo added to my love of the original story and gave me two more favorite books.

Every one would enjoy reading this story.

I enjoyed reading "Little Women" and not knowing anything about this book, I listened and felt like I had read it before. I loved how the author aged the women and brought a new twist to the story. I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Excellent, though I haven't read Little Women yet.

An excellent update to a classic. Hope there's more to come from this series, should she wish to continue it. Excellent narration by all 3, though Brittany and Catherine are the only two I recognize. Both are quite skilled with tone, inflection, and accents, which help to bring it to life.

Loved this modern take

What a wonderful story. I haven’t read Little Women or watched the movie so I cannot speak to the similarities. I can only say the book was thoughtful and the women inspiring. I thought the depiction of Beth was particularly powerful.

I also enjoyed the multiple actor reading about which I worried. Well done!

Good but not as good as Meg and Jo

I truly enjoyed both of these books, but Meg and Jo spoke to me more both because of the issues the sisters faced, their relationship, and the retelling of the original story. So much of this book went off script, in part of course because Beth is alive. Some readers/listeners may appreciate that, but I didn't find her character very true to the original. I would not recommend listening to it right after Meg and Jo because the voices the narrators use for Jo and Bauer are dreadful, especially in Amy's sections, and it was just painful after the great narration of that book. Otherwise the narration, especially for the mom, was good.
