Publisher's summary

The timeless classic Little Women inspired this heartwarming modern tale of four sisters from New York Times best-selling author Virginia Kantra.

The March sisters - reliable Meg, independent Jo, stylish Amy, and shy Beth - have grown up to pursue their separate dreams. When Jo followed her ambitions to New York City, she never thought her career in journalism would come crashing down, leaving her struggling to stay afloat in a gig economy as a prep cook and secret food blogger.

Meg appears to have the life she always planned - the handsome husband, the adorable toddlers, the house in a charming subdivision. But sometimes getting everything you’ve ever wanted isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

When their mother’s illness forces the sisters home to North Carolina for the holidays, they’ll rediscover what really matters.

One thing’s for sure - they’ll need the strength of family and the power of sisterhood to remake their lives and reimagine their dreams.

Critic reviews

"I don’t know of another author who could do justice to Little Women. In a warm, realistic, and humorous voice, Virginia Kantra knocks it out of the park with Meg & Jo in this rich retelling of the beloved classic." (Kristan Higgins, New York Times best-selling author)

"Kantra blends just enough of Alcott’s story of four close-knit sisters and their myriad tribulations with clever and timely new elements.... The imaginative storytelling and sparkling prose make this a winner." (Publishers Weekly)

"Those who gravitate toward family-centric novels with twists along the way will enjoy this novel, and fans of Alcott's original will appreciate this modern take on the beloved classic."(Booklist)

"A thought-provoking adaptation of a beloved classic." (Kirkus Reviews)

A great twist on a classic

Excellent work, though I don't recognize either narrator. An excellent modern take on Little Women, with another version on the way. Both narrators are perfect, with the one for Meg great at a North Carolina accent.

A good reimagining of a classic

I first read Little Women when I was in the second grade, and have read it many, many times since. Some movies have captured the spirit of the book; others have not. I added it to my Audible wishlist and when a couple of my favorite authors read ARCs and loved it, I preordered it and downloaded it just before a trip. I wasn't disappointed

This modern reimagining of the story brought familiar characters and events, with updated twists. I liked the familiarity of the story plots and Virginia Kantra did a great job with the updates, including mixing up some of the family dynamics.

Shannon McManus and Karissa Vacker did a fine job of bring the characters and story to life.

If you loved Little Women, I think you'll like this retelling.

Cloying, annoying characters.

How disappointing! To take these wonderful characters and turn them into caricatures. Very sorry I purchased.

Ok

The narrator for Meg kills me with the baby voices for the twins. It’s so grating that I had a hard time finishing the book. The sex stuff on Jo’s side became a little monotonous and overdone. I love little women and prefer the traditional story BUT I don’t mind retelling and modernizations of classics in movies or literature. This isn’t bad. Im going to read the second book. It’s not the best I’ve read. Performance wise I found the narration for the toddlers seriously annoying. I had to actually FF 30 seconds here and there.
