About this listen

The Shadow Crusade has begun. While the Ultramarines reel from Kor Phaeron's surprise attack on Calth, Lorgar and the rest of the Word Bearers strike deep into the realm of Ultramar.

Their unlikely allies, Angron and the World Eaters, continue to ravage each new system they come across - upon the garrison planet of Armatura, this relentless savagery may finally prove to be their undoing. Worlds will burn, Legions will clash and a primarch will fall.

What’s not to like about this book, 2 on 1 Primarch battles, Legios Titan battles, star cruiser battles, it delivers. A few scenes were quite humorous and the first time I laughed listening to any 40k novel. You kind of have to have a understanding of the heresy timeline to capture the context.

Only Second to The First Heretic

Besides Ahriman there is no more tragic story than that of Angron. A boy forced into slavery, brain mutilated, and then made to fight. A slave rebellion ended at its crescendo only to be forgotten about through the sands of time. That slave then becoming creature of unending pain whose only release is causing the same that is felt. Brotherhood between legions, torn apart because of betrayal and greed. The birth of the true Red Angel, and the real Betrayer.

This is one of the best books in the whole heresy. You will weep for the most violent and insane of all chaos marines. Also you probably are gonna build a world eater army when that codex comes out next year!

The Greek tragedy in a sea of tragedies.

Amazing narration, truly amazing, Jonathan Keeble is a master storyteller in my eyes forever from now on,

Aaron Dembski-Bowden, Is also a master, I have just finished listening, and I'm still mindblown, I would write a more glowing review with much more flowery language,

But I just can't. These men knocked it out of the park.

Blood for the Blood God.

Amazing in every regard.

Not only is Betrayer a triumph of character development, this is the ideal way to experience the book. Keeble breathes vivid life into these already fantastic- and fantastically written- characters

best voice acting of all time

Keeble’s performance and ADB’s writing bring Kharn, Angron, and the rest of the cast to life in a great way. I’m also a huge World Eaters fanboy so that helps. The whole story was great and is easily my favorite in the series so far. A must for any World Eaters fans and a must for anyone listening to the series. 10/10

My god

I never thought I would have cause to think, “poor Angron” but ADB gives him dimension and makes you feel for the guy. I’d recommend it for that characterization alone but there is tons of great stuff in here. Highly recommended.

Very very good

I want to go into intense detail but do not want to spoil the twists for future readers.
Incredible use of foreshadowing leading the reader into a false sense of security and totally unprepared for the gut wrenching twists.
Beautifully titled, beautifully written- this may be my favorite book of the series so far.

This one sticks with you

This is ADB at his best in the Heresy. The characters are solid and compelling and it makes Lorgar almost likable, and provides great context into the Word Bearers and World Eaters.

One of the better HH Novels

Another good chapter to the continuing story. Narrator was excellent, as usual for this series.
