Publisher's summary

From the award-winning author of Quicksand, a gripping legal thriller that follows one woman's conflicted efforts to overturn what may be a wrongful conviction.

I'm giving you a chance to achieve every lawyer's dream, said Sophia Weber's old professor. Freeing an innocent man.

Thirteen years ago, a 15-year-old girl was murdered. Doctor Stig Ahlin was sentenced to life in prison. But no one has forgotten the brutal crime. Ahlin is known as one of the most ruthless criminals.

When Sophia Weber discovers critical flaws in the murder investigation, she decides to help Ahlin. But Sophia's doing her utmost to get her client exonerated arouses many people's disgust. And the more she learns, the more difficult her job becomes. What kind of man is her client really? What has he done? And will she ever know the truth?

Whodunnit?

Going back and forth between past and present became tedious. The characters accents were so bad. Nothing worse than hanging in there waiting for the whodunnit, and the book ends! I’m still waiting for the whodunnit?

Needs a good editor

Too much jumping around. Difficult to know what, who, when. Seemed like several short stories put together in random order .

Very disappointing

The nucleus of this story is good and it could have made a great book. It made me wonder if the author had an editor. It took forever to get into the story. Then when there are some facts that make it seem interesting, the author doesn't develop the story. The repetitive inner chatter of the lawyer who is attempting to appeal the case is annoying - any professional with her cred would not engage in such handwringing. The sidebar stories of characters were also of little import to the story. I pushed through as the positive reviews made me think it would get better. But even the ending was a disappointment. A good editor who would have sent this book back to tighten the story line and expand the important details would have made this a great book. For me, it was a waste of time. As for the performance, the reader did a terrible job of the male voices which really added to the overall annoyance.

CAUTION

This book starts with the brutal rape and murder of a teenage girl and the rape Of her dog. I stopped listening. I am a fan of the murder mystery genre I cannot bear to listen to graphic violence anymore. I couldn’t really tell you what I think about the performance I was so traumatized by the events. I gave The performance a five as I did not know what was fair for her
