About this listen

Now that she has her freedom, she's not giving it up.

Dragon shifter Keelin Petronilla spent centuries in forced hibernation dreaming of one thing: freedom. Now she's living life on her terms - she's ditched her clan for an unruly wolf pack, she tends bar for a half-demon, and she's loving it...until a powerful supernatural being targets her. She intends to handle the mysterious attacks on her own...without the help of dragon alpha Bran Devlin. Sure, he's sexy in that hot, scowling possessive way, but Keelin wants to live her own life in her own way.

Now that he's found his mate, he's not letting her go.

Former black ops agent Bran Devlin is a born dragon alpha and leader of a fierce clan. Getting mated was never part of his plan - until a feisty dragon princess gets under his skin in a big way. The hell of it is, she doesn't want a mate; she just wants to have a good time. He plays along, but when a dark and powerful being marks her for death, he's determined to stay by her side in spite of her protests. Now that he's found his mate, he means to keep her safe no matter what the cost...even if he has to risk it all.

Great Series!

Any additional comments?

This is a great book; this is the third book in the Darkness series by Katie Reus and narrated by Jeffrey Kafer. These books do not have to be read/listened to in order, but I would advise you do read them in order so you can learn about each character. Keelin is a dragon shifter who was forced into hibernation by her parents. She woke up from her hibernation after her missing brother returned from hell. Keelin has been enjoying her freedom away from her pack of dragons. Bran is a former black ops dragon shifter who is also the alpha of a fierce dragon clan. He has known that Keelin is his mate since he first met her, the problem is convincing her. When some powerful supernatural person targets Keelin he is determined to protect her.

The narrator Jeffrey Kafer did a wonderful job, and was very easy to listen too. He did a great job with the different characters and their voices.

If you are looking for a great book then you need to read this book. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. Once I started listening to this book, I didn’t want to stop until the end.

A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

Will she have him for her mate?

Would you listen to Beyond the Darkness, Volume 3 again? Why?

Of course its a fantastic dragon shifter story with tons of action and paranormal galore

What did you like best about this story?

Keelin has had a rough time adapting after having been in hibernation for a very long time and how she has embraced life is amazing. She is also a very strong minded female.

Which character – as performed by Jeffrey Kafer – was your favorite?

Well I like all that is performed by the narrator but I suppose if I had to choose just one its Bran.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Oh it was a roller coaster of emotions for me with this story. But you can't help but laugh in a lot of places and want to rip heads off in other places.

AWESOME SERIES. NARRATOR MAKES IT DOUBLY WELL!

Most enjoyable. Keelin and Bran were well matched. I like Keelin's determination to be independent after so many years of being over protected. Being hunted by a demigod is frightening but with her family and Bran looking out for her it worked out. Very good addition to the series. Katie Reus was excellent in this new SCI/fantasy genre. I hope there will more books to come.

Beware The Dragon

Keelin is a dragon shifter. She's glad to be out of Protective Hibernation. Thank goodness. Her parents are still sleeping. It's hard being the daughter of two powerful and protective dragons. Now she's working at Bo's supernatural establishment. She's enjoying her freedom. Then suddenly she's in danger. Someone wants her dead. What do they want? Bran Devlin is a powerful Dragon Alpha who wants to mate with Keelin, but she doesn't want to commit. They're attraction is powerful, sensual and loving. I enjoyed this couple. They are amazing. She's feisty and stubborn. Bran is a powerful Alpha who's determined to win his lady. I feel in love as he tried to win her heart while he protected her from danger. The romance and the danger drew me into the story. Beyond The Darkness is a great story. The narration by Jeffrey Kafer increased the feeling of danger and suspense. I was pulled into the shifter world and I was left wanting more. Beyond The Darkness is a winner.

So Much Better to Listen

Where does Beyond the Darkness, Volume 3 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I would say number 2 at this time.

Would you recommend Beyond the Darkness, Volume 3 to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes, because it adds to the series.

What about Jeffrey Kafer’s performance did you like?

I think he does an amazing job for these books, because they just need that roughness that his voice adds to.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, and it has to do with the story it self. I struggle with Keely. I get that she want her independence, but I still struggle with the story. However, you need this story to move on to the next part of the story. All the stories play integral part to building the plot.

Great PNR & World Building

I'm going to make this review short and sweet! I love all types of romance, and like to shake things up every once in a while with a good PNR, and Katie Reus has created an interesting world full of all types of shifters, and supernaturals. There's well developed characters, and each book ticks off everything I look for in a good PNR. Steamy Romance.. check, Action.... check, world building.... check, Great Plot ..... check. It's a win win for me. Jeffrey Kafer always does an amazing job with the narration. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Very good addition to the series :D

4 stars

This was a very good story. I liked both Bran and Keelin and enjoyed their story a lot.

Keelinis a dragon shifter and the younger sister of Drake (the hero in book #2). Since Drake went missing when he was a child, Keelin and Drake's parents went very overprotective when it came to her and she had basically no life outside of her home. She even got guilted into a long hybridization with her parents but rose before them, about a year ago. Keelin has enjoyed this new world now that she's risen. She cherishes her new freedom and isn't willing to lose it for anything or anyone.

Bran is a dragon shifter and the alpha of his dragon clan. He is rare when it comes to dragons because he was born with a deformity, an eye that he can't see out of. He's also not "fair in face" like most dragon shifters and feels that no female would want him because of his imperfections. This never really bothered Bran because he never wanted a mate....at least not until he meets Keelin.

When Bran and Keelin met in the previous book, Bran wanted Keelin immediately but was unsure of how to proceed. Keelin thought he hung around at the behest of her brothers as a protector and didn't realize it was a personal interest (at least not at first). Keelin is attracted to Bran but assumes that because he's an alpha that he'd automatically feel the need to dominate her and restrain her freedom so she wont even consider mating with him. She decides to go live with Finn's wolf pack for a while so she can experience life and Bran stays home, giving her some time before going after her. When Bran does go to see Keelin, she's still adamant about not wanting a mate but does express an interest in "fooling around" with Bran, just as long as he promises not to bite her to solidify their mating. Bran isn't exactly happy with the offer but he figures he'll take what he can get and work on her from there.

Unfortunately, someone seems to be after Keelin and Bran has his hands full keeping her safe. Things escalate when Bran finds out that some other dragons that have gone missing recently might have something to do with the attacks on Keelin. As they investigate things, Bran and Keelin learn to work together and she finds that he's not as insufferable as she thought at first. He actually listened to her and didn't push her around which made Keelin think that maybe, just maybe there could be something more between them. A little more drama comes out when Keelin's parents come out of their hibernation but that whole situation actually ends better than I expected. With some work, the bad guy is found and dealt with and Bran and Keelin proceed on to start their HEA together.

This was a very enjoyable story. I liked Keelin where I didn't think I would. So much of the time, heroines that have a reason why they wont get involved with a man can harp on that reason to the point of major annoyance. With Keelin, she had her reasons and she stuck to them at first but she wasn't afraid to change her opinion when she saw the reality of things and I liked that!. Bran was a good hero...no complaints there. Overall, the story was very good and engaging. I'd recommend this book (and the series). :)
