About this listen

When mysterious fires begin plaguing the little mountain town of Big Lake, Arizona, it doesn't take Sheriff Jim Weber long to realize that a serial arsonist is on the loose and has to be stopped before somebody dies or the entire forest goes up in flames.

With the help of C.C. Callahan, a beautiful Deputy Fire Marshal, the sheriff begins the hunt while dealing with an upstart newspaper publisher hell-bent on smearing his good name and ruining his reputation.

As the fires continue, fingers of blame are pointed and everybody in Big Lake wonders whose home or business will be the next to burn.

One reviewer has referred to the Big Lake mystery series as "Mayberry Meets Twin Peaks."

While my wife and I love Nick Russell's books, this narrator doesn't work for us.
All the characters were deadpan, what was supposed to be snappy dialogue fell flat.
And all the female voices sounded like they were bored to tears.

Loved the story, though.

I like that Archer continues to provide much appreciated comic relief. lol. Fires, arsen, coverups, but boy I didn't expect this. It's kinda sad about Sam. I was suspicious about the villain, but the lenghts of that greed were unconscionable. I'm glad an innocent man wasn't framed, he had enough problems. smh. This was emotional and sad for me. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job with voices and expressions bringing it to life.

By the time this was over I'd been fooled again by the author. The twist was elegant. If you read this you will be watching for and weighing each twists wondering just which is elegant. Have fun

The tone of this story seemed more mature than others in this series. The plot of the story was fine.

Didn’t care for the narrator. I really enjoyed the first five books, and their narrator. I was a bit distracted by the new person.

Overall good read
