About this listen

This is not a happy story or a romance filled with love. This is the bitter tale of a desolate existence that straddled the threshold between psychosis and evil and then fell over. Within this solemn audiobook rest the final accounts of Birdie Nook.

Throughout this short, the listener is pulled into Birdie's past. The gripping, wrenching tales of Birdie's childhood are revealed--such a dismal history that it's no surprise nasty Birdie is the way nasty Birdie is.

I thoroughly enjoyed this sad but honest tale. I was captivated by Bert's life's few ups and heartbreaking downs. Yes, it's a horror story but it's also an authentic story of a familiar character in our society..

Intriguing tale

The story itself is full of literary gems. The description of Birdie’s travel into work will fill you with a sense of deep-set horror, and her reflections on life will compound the feeling. The ending is satisfying and surprising. The description of some of Birdie’s food choices are very potent. For a short story the author’s voice is remarkably clear and compelling. The narrator is excellent and top shelf. I had the opportunity to read the book prior to listening to it, and I was struck with how well the narrator preformed the various parts. Well worth the listen and five stars in every category. Do yourself a favor and grab this as well as the author’s other work. I can’t wait for her next offering.

An Outstanding read full of gems
