About this listen

Birdman showcases Hayder at her spine-tingling best as beloved series character Jack Caffery tracks down a terrifying serial killer. In his first case as lead investigator with London's crack murder squad, Detective Jack Caffery is called on to investigate the murder of a young woman whose body has been discovered near the Millennium Dome in Greenwich, southeast London. Brutalized, and mutilated beyond recognition, the victim is soon joined by four others discovered in the same area - all female and all ritualistically murdered. And when the postmortem examination reveals a gruesome signature connecting the victims, Caffery realizes exactly what he's dealing with - a dangerous serial killer.

Read this in print when it came out years ago. Just as good in audio form. Now, if MO would just publish more!

Chilling!

This story is too realistic and gory for me. The writing is good the reader is too good. I just do not have an appetite for too much reality and cruelty.6

Gory

You will squirm with disgust at the vile acts in this book- but if escapism, police procedure, and psychopaths- plus a talented narration- are your thing, then I urge you to give this book a try.

So scary, I kept this book secret....

Well done, maybe not memorable but entertaining in a you-can't-look-away-car-accident way. kind of reminds me of Val McDermid. Held my attention throughout. Features one of the more disgustingly creepy villains I've read about lately.

Good but grisly

This went over the line for me, although I stayed until the end. Am a seasoned British detective fan, but will skip this author in the future.

Too Much Gore??

I didn’t want the story to end. Readers beware…it can be graphic in some sections but they are necessary to tell the story correctly. Enjoy!

Riveting!

This is the first audio book that I have enjoyed completely. A huge reason in my positive appraisal of this book, is due to the narrator. Super job! Do note that this story is Not for the squeemish! The actions of the killer are detailed and graphic.

A darn good read!

I wish Damien had narrated the other novels. he really made the first two amazing. not the same on the others.

An excellent mystery novel. love Damien Goodwin.

The story was great... that said I felt it was too bogged down by the detailed barbarities. I don't expect an author to sugar coat things. I fully understand the need to convey concepts that are unimaginable, even disturbing. However, scenes of violence and inhumanity, much like scenes of sex can easily cross over from being descriptive to unnecessarily explicit, vulgar.

I did enjoy the story, it was not predictable or implausable. Although another reviewer remarked on the cliche of prostitutes and drug addicts, this is an unfortunate statistical fact. It was a good listen overall, but buyer beware.

Graphic, that seemed a little gratuitous.
