When the last thing you want is everything you need....
Seb Calloway isn't interested in shifters. After his best friend bonded with one, he avoids getting involved with them - no matter how hot they are - to prevent the same thing from happening to him. Why take the risk for a few hours of fun?
Tim Walters is the pack doctor. Considered to be mild-mannered and non-threatening by pack standards, he prides himself on being able to stay calm and maintain his control at all times. Desperate for a bond of his own, he knows his interest in Seb is an exercise in futility, but he can't seem to help himself.
When news emerges that threatens Seb's safety, he and Tim need to fake a relationship to keep Seb safe. Despite Seb's refusal to be anything other than friends with benefits, what starts out as pretend, quickly becomes more - for Tim at least. If Tim doesn't want to end up heartbroken, he needs to prove to Seb that loving a shifter doesn't mean losing himself.
Contains mature themes.

I'm assuming the choice to pronounce BETA (a GREEK word NOT English) as BEATERS must've been the author's choice & not that the narrator can't pronounce such a simple word.
I've listened to many of his books & he's usually flawless, so this blatant & quite moronic mispronunciation, did take me by surprise... however, he did slip & pronounced it correctly one of the times & I was glad to know that the choice to mispronounce hadn't been his 👍
I couldn't care less if authors ask narrators to mispronounce words &/or names that they've invented, however deliberately mispronouncing words from other countries & or cultures... is incredibly disrespectful & Alpha, Beta, Upsilon, etc... are part of the Greek ALPHA-BET(a)!
Onto the story;
TBPH, I wasn't & still am not, Seb's fan. He was too dumb a character, as well as extremely selfish & although unwittingly, he was unconscionably cruel to Tim, who was the absolutely sweetest character & honestly deserved better IMO... the author introduced Alec as more of a villain, but clearly him & Tim had already bond, I would've even preferred Luke or even Daryl for Tim 🤷♀️
I know that there has to be conflict, but as Seb hadn't really won me over until that point, it just rubbed me up the wrong way, because he was being so incredibly cruel to Tim, after Tim had already told him how he felt.
I'm so weary of continuing the series as there's no book for Luke & he's one of my top favourites, only behind Nathan & Tim.
I'm so afraid that the author is gonna try to make him a traitor, in cohoots with the vile Alpha from (P-Pack 🤭)
Hope springs eternal however & I'm now hoping that it's because he becomes involved with Seb's sister & as this is mostly an M/M series, that's why he doesn't get his own book, but he does get his own HEA! 🤞🤞🤞
Not spoilers exactly, but... best avoided if book hasn't been read yet!

There were a few confounding bits... such as Jared saying he knew nothing about bonds when Seb asked him... the previous book & Jared's own story was all about him & Nathan trying to figure out about bonds, so it was nonsensical for him to say he had no idea.
It was never explained why Jared didn't help Seb during the attack, seeing as he was right there. In fact, that whole subplot had more holes than a Swiss cheese.
Gareth had smelled Seb's sister & blood, however suddenly she was missing 🤔... HOW?!
Gareth is meant to be stronger than normal shifters, but THREE on one & he allegedly was unharmed enough to carry Seb off?!
If the power difference between Betas & non-Betas is that great... it's a wonder that any non-Beta Shifter is stupid enough to even contemplate attacking a Beta 🤷♀️
a good continuation to the series

It seemed that the bond between the two characters just happened, rather than progressing like the first book.
In addition the human character ultimately was the same for this book, which left it a little boring. then at the end it was obvious that the human was going to turn, and it didn't work for me because he didn't do much to earn that opportunity in my mind.
But because in Book 1 we didn't get a werewolf turn, it was pretty easy to predict this human would.
I agreed with the initial rejection of trying to turn him and I haven't lost that.
it was predictable
