About this listen

One hot cop. One bar owner out for redemption. One smoking-hot summer fling destined to leave scorch marks....

Mason Hanks has returned to Rainbow Cove, Oregon with one goal in mind: turn the struggling coastal community into a thriving LGBTQ tourism destination. Step one is transforming an old bar and grill into a gay-friendly eatery. Step two? Don't piss off Nash Flint, the very hot, very stern chief of police who's not so sure he's on board with Mason's big plans.

Nash Flint just wants to keep his community safe and enjoy the occasional burger in peace. He's not big on change nor is he a fan of Mason's troublemaking family, especially his rowdy older brothers. But Mason slowly wins him over with fantastic cooking and the sort of friendship Nash has been starving for.

When their unlikely friendship takes a turn for the sexy, both men try to steer clear of trouble. Nash believes he's too set in his ways for Mason, and Mason worries that his family's reputation will ruin any future with Nash.

Burning up the sheets in secret is a surefire way to crash and burn, and discovery forces a heart-wrenching decision - is love worth the risk of losing everything?

Contains mature themes.

Trust With a Chaser

I will admit.. I initially bought this Audiobook because of the two narrators and I did not even read the blurb for the book first. Iggy Toma and March Bachman are at the top of my favorites list when it comes to narrations. And I think that they did a good job co-narrating this one. There were a few times I was a little disappointed but I think it was more about how the book was written and not necessarily the narration for it example; even though the narrators were being switched each chapter for their character, during the sex scenes the men talked a lot. and I felt like the narration at that point should have been done by both narrators and not just the one.. IMO It kind of threw off the scene a little bit . But overall the narration was done well by both men and each one brought a different voice and set of emotions to the story.
Book: knowing that I knew absolutely nothing about this book before I started it was good in a way. it kept me totally enthralled and wanting to hear what happens next. I think that the storyline was good with how the relationship progressed with Nash/Flint and Mason and it had just the right amount of Drama happening.. The only part of the story that really bugged me and I just didn't understand was Nash, He made it seem like there was a huge age difference (it was only like 15yrs or so) and that he was some old geriatric 60+ something man who was at the end of his life when really he was in his mid/late 30's. Idk maybe it was just me but I think too much emphasis was put onto the point of Nash's age. But, that aldo did add a little extra to the story since it was a talking point for people. & I liked the small town Vibe and the drama with the brother & family's. Overall the book was good and I will be waiting on the next book in the series to come out in Audio *with my fingers crossed on the same narrators being used*

Got better

The story potential was good but took a while to ramp up, but when it did about half way through it Grabbed my interest.

Good character development

I was amused to see the author self described as a grammar nazi, then see grammatical errors all through the book... mostly adjectives used as adverbs. Ok in a less educated caracter it may be more accurate... but

One glaring narration problem
If you went to a culinary school and pronounced chiffonade like lemonade they would laugh you out of the room

Shee foh nod uh

All that griping aside, a good book that accelerated as it went on

Nash was the reincarnation of my uncle

Any

Bad Family. Sexy Sheriff

Mason came back to Rainbow Cove to open a gay friendly tavern and for his family. His brothers were none law abiding thugs and it’s hard to live with the Hanks name. Nash was the police chief and Mason had an instant attraction. Can a very out Mason and a closeted Nash find a match. Marvelous performance and author. Recommend.

good book, nice enough audiobook 3.5 stars

I liked the story and the actors were good. I'm not convinced that two people were needed to read this book. For instance with these readers I don't think that Nash's two voices matched enough...
in the end I still enjoyed the audiobook, so thanks.

Great Performances/Sweet Story

Not sure why everyone is harping on Marc Bachmann, I thought he did a great job. I know a number of younger guys who have voices that are lower and sound older than they are. Not everyone who is young has a young sounding voice. Iggy Toma is fabulous as always. I think the story hit on a great point about how difficult it is to follow in the shadow of your parent. Also the difficulty of being out as a law enforcement officer. Looking forward to the next one.

Trust With a Chaser

I love all of the books that Annabeth Albert has published and I wish her a long and fruitful career in writing so we can all enjoy her down-to-earth, real, and tender romances for many years. I don't think that it dragged nor do I think that it was slow to reach the point of the story, and I certainly disagree with anyone who thinks that there wasn't any chemistry between Nash and Mason. There was chemistry, oh yeah, there was chemistry right from the beginning. And disagreeing with other reviewers, I really did like the two narrators, I think that using two narrators added depth and resonance to the production. Mason is young, open, and unafraid, and the narration for him was spot on. While Nash is older and the deeper, sonorous narration added a touch of weary, self-protective sadness that, I feel, was very heartfelt. This is the kind of novel that I would love to hear more of, to go deeper into their story and hear how their life together settles into a contented and grateful happiness.

A- rating...

My Review:
Overall: 4.25
Performance: 4.0
Story: 4.25

I really enjoyed this book. I haven't heard much about this series, but was anxious to get started. Yay...it was a great choice.

Nash is a deeply in the closet sheriff. He's grown up in Rainbow Cove where his dad was also the sheriff. As such, there have always been expectations for how he'll act...most especially...heterosexual. Nash doesn't think his life will survive ever coming out, so he plans to stay in the closet his entire life and get sex only on a very rare occasion.

Mason also grew up in Rainbow Cove, but his reputation as part of the Hanks clan is VERY different from Nash's. His family is always skirting the edge of what is legal and everyone condemns him purely by his familial ties. But Mason isn't like the rest of his family. In fact, he's a really nice, law-abiding guy. He figures if he keeps acting that way eventually someone will believe him...most especially Sheriff Sexy who doesn't trust Mason one inch.

This is a slow build romance simply because Nash is so far in the closet and he doesn't know who Mason really is as a person. They slowly become friends and then things progress from there.

And it's a sweet story. I really enjoyed it. It wasn't just the romance that drew me to the book, either. I liked the backstories and plots happening in the background of it all. Mason has his family drama, the difficulties of running a new restaurant, and convincing the locals that a gay bar isn't a bad thing for their small communities tourist trade. Nash is dealing with the difficulties of a mother who wants him to maintain the facade he's always had as well as dealing with Mason's trouble-making family and all the other demands of being the sheriff.

It was simply a good book. So good that I immediately downloaded book #2 before I finished. I hope there's a lot more to come in Rainbow Cove.

Beautiful love story with heart

Rainbow cove is the place to be, both Nash and Mason are a couple that you will be rooting for!

The author does a really good job, creating a slew of characters and world building.

As a gay man, it’s wonderfully exciting to see how the author, a cisgendered woman, creates such a sexy world and chemistry between two men!

4 1/2 Sweet Stars!!!

This is my first book Ms. Albert and I must say that I really liked this book. Nash and Mason are such great characters. This story is about a slightly older Sheriff being in the closet and having a thing for a younger guy. There's tension between their families that go back some years, which complicates matters for them. There's a lot of drama going on with Mason's troubled family. Can't wait for the next book.

Pretty good.

This was pretty good. I would have liked to have seen a little more resolution with the families. As usual, Iggy Toma's narration was fabulous as Nash. I didn't think Marc Bachmann was a good fit for Mason.
