About this listen

I've lost so much.

Family. My home.

Pride. My identity.

And I couldn't help but feel it's entirely my fault. There is no one else to blame.

I've quickly learned that being the White Raven isn't easy. The dead are restless and angry, and I don't know the first thing about being a banshee. Those around me will get hurt. To keep them safe, I must endure painful decisions.

Zane Hunter, the ultra-bad boy who stole my heart, is one of those difficult decisions. Our souls are synchronized, making us a compatible duo. Too bad I'm engaged to his brother.

My forbidden relationship with Zane is complicated. Deep down I want more than what my duty demands of me, what my family's past has shaped for me.

Our problematic relationship only increases in tenfold when a surprise I never saw coming shows up in Raven Hallow, changing the game. I thought I had nothing left to lose...I was wrong.

Yeah, being a banshee isn't all that it's cracked up to be.

Great!

Love this book series. Sander seems so nice but Zane is my favorite. I love how he keeps calling her "princess"

Ok How to Review this....

I think Caitlin did an AMAZING JOB NARRATING! you could definitely tell each character from each other & TRUST ME that's a good thing!! Ok yes as some of you have said, some of the story is predictable! However some isn't! some of the sayings are cheesy BUT I'D PREFER CHEESY OVER A SEVERE DIRTY MOUTH of nothing but SEX! The storyline is good for a YA I think it could go as a teenage book as well! I LOVE BOTH!!

it's an okay read.

so the idea behind the story is great and interesting, but the mail character seems kind of flat. she repeats alot of the same phrases and constantly has to remind us of how hot she finds her crush. almost as if that is all he is to her, a hot guy.

Outstanding narration in YA reaper tale.

Any additional comments?

Black Crow is an admirable follow up to the exciting YA paranormal book, White Raven by J.L. Weil. The story picks up where the first book ends, after the murder of Piper's grandmother and Piper's ascension to become a banshee- the next queen of the reapers (someone who helps souls cross over into the after life). Piper is still struggling with what it means to be a banshee, having grown up outside the community of Raven Hollow and not knowing that she was born a reaper (kind of like how Mia from the Princess Diaries didn't know she was a princess).

Because Piper has a lifetime of reaper history and training to catch up on, most of this book is centered around her training so she is not caught unaware of her abilities again. There is still plenty of teenaged angst and smoldering sexual tension between Piper and Zane, especially since Piper is engaged to Zane's brother Zander, who is the firstborn and heir of the Grim Reaper. Piper and Zander try really hard to make their arranged engagement work, but neither feels more than a friendship or sisterly-brotherly affection for the other. On the other hand, Piper's and Zane's synchronized hearts are combustible when they are together and even a casual observer can see it. There is one big shocker and I don't think it's a spoiler to merely say that a central character is killed during an enemy attack at Piper's coronation. Now I can't wait for Soul Symmetry to see how this trilogy ends!

Caitlin Kelly narrated the Audible version of this story and she was fantastic. She used differing voices for all characters male and female and expressed urgency without becoming shrill, which few narrators achieve successfully. I've bumped up the overall rating due to Caitlin's engaging narration, which contributed to my enjoyment of this book immensely. I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest unbiased review.

Great book

I will admit the book is a little slow to start off but it gets much better. I love Pipers attitude and find myself laughing and shaking my head to myself at the things she says. I wish she was more of a fighter though.... She talks a big game with her smartass-ness but I'm ready for her to stop needing to be rescued. Can't wait for the next one.

A Pretty Good Sequel

I have to say that listening to this on audio was a lot of fun because the narrator is amazing in what she does to make this book come alive to the reader. As an adult, I sometimes like to read YA books because I do not have to do much thinking when reading or listening to it. This one got irritating at times because the main character was just annoying throughout the book. I kept saying that she was spunky, but I often thought she was just plain rude. It’s not gonna stop me from reading the final book to see what happens.

I did like the other characters and I was sad about the death of one of them. While I can see where the author was going with this death, it still took me by surprise.

There was a little bit more language in this novel than some of the other young adult books that I’ve read in the past. While I am very much aware that young people talk that way, I still don’t care to hear it.

After all that said and done, I do recommend this book if you want some light reading and to be entertained a little bit. If you are a fan of the Twilight series or even The Mortal Instruments, you’ll like this series because the story is very similar.

Wow Great Series!

I picked this series up on a whim. Now I love this series. I was pleasantly surprised. I have to admit though if I was reading this instead of listening to it in audible I probably wouldn't have finished it but the narrator does a really good job, I love her voices she actually makes the book sound better than if I was reading it myself. I love how the hunter brothers and sister are all so different yet very similar. And of course all good looking. Zane is yummy and how could you not like him! Zander is just too sweet and I could see myself falling for him as well. **spoiler alert* there is a bit of a love triangle in this series. Piper is a sass and a very strong personality. Honestly, I could have done without some of the name calling. I found there was more of that in the first book and it was toned down a little In this second one. It just seemed a little immature to be calling names but I love her spunk. I love how she doesn't just automatically have some crazy powers and she has to work for her skills. The storyline is Intriguing and keeps you wondering what's gonna happen next. Author does a good job of keeping you interested. Overall good book I will definitely continue with the next book in the series.

I'm so sad I need more hurry up time!

Loved the story, loved the narrator and I cannot wait until the next book is out. I thought the story was a little slow at first but it picked up as the book went on. I am hoping to have more Zane & Piper alone time in the next book!! Great read!!
