About this listen

Syssi's paranormal foresight lands her a job at Dr. Amanda Dokani's neuroscience lab, but it fails to predict the thrilling yet terrifying turn her life will take. Syssi has no clue that her boss is an immortal who'll drag her into a secret, millennia-old battle over humanity's future. Nor does she realize that the professor's imposing brother is the mysterious stranger who's been starring in her dreams.

Since the dawn of human civilization, two warring factions of near-immortals - the descendants of the gods of old - have been secretly shaping its destiny. Leading the clandestine battle from his luxurious L.A. high-rise, Kian is surrounded by his clan, yet alone. Descending from a single goddess, clan members are forbidden to each other. And as the only other immortals are their hated enemies, Kian and his kin have been long resigned to a lonely existence of fleeting trysts with human partners. That is, until his sister makes a game-changing discovery - a mortal seeress who she believes is a dormant carrier of their genes. Ever the realist, Kian is skeptical and refuses Amanda's plea to attempt Syssi's activation. But when his enemies learn of the Dormant's existence, he's forced to rush her to the safety of his keep. Inexorably drawn to Syssi, Kian wrestles with his conscience as he is tempted to explore her budding interest in the darker shades of sensuality.

At 82,000 words, Dark Stranger: The Dream is a full-length novel but it is not a standalone. Kian and Syssi's story is a three-book series. In book four, Dark Enemy Taken, a new couple takes the center stage. Follow the cast of intriguing characters as they fall in love while fighting for the survival of their family, and get swept away into the world of The Children of the Gods.

Great book!

The story is good. A little too explanatory in some chapters and it takes getting used to the voice of the narrator. It jumps from characters a lot but it's easy to follow the story line. Has cliff hanger which means I am hooked and had to buy the next gook. Good thing is not expensive! I can't wait to listen to the next one.

Didn't love it

This wasn't what I was expecting, even after sifting through several reviews. The idea of these "near immortals" was exciting, even intriguing, but the book wasn't as well written as I would have hoped. At times, the content seemed shallow and unrealistic.

For my own personal taste, there was way too much cussing (I could have done without that) and there were several very explicit sex scenes.

The cliffhanger was well done... if not for the cussing, sex, and mediocre narration, I might consider reading the rest of the series to see how things turn out. I will say that it was mildly entertaining.

romance novel for sexually frustrated geeks

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

no. this is a different take on vampires. instead of sucking blood these near immortals have venomous fangs. i won't say what the venom does but the book has a "50 shades of gray" feel. was not a fun read.

If you’ve listened to books by I.T. Lucas before, how does this one compare?

no

What about Charles Lawrence’s performance did you like?

i think he did well with this material.

Any additional comments?

this was much too serious for a silly subject. i enjoyed the "Elliott Kay" books, they were fun and entertaining with a sexy edge. i was impressed this author knows the difference between envy and jealousy, many authors do not.

Would’ve enjoyed it more with a female narrator.

The mans voice was so deep his attempt at a female character was awkward. The story was good but I should have read it as the audible ruined it for me.

Slow, slow, slow

Good narrator but I don't care for the voice he uses for Kian.

Definitely don't care that you turned the page and that was the end of the page.

I'm going to give the next book a try, if the pace doesn't pick up I'm giving up on series.

Excellent storytelling!

This was a fun and sexy read. I very much enjoyed it. The writer is quite the storyteller, and they have a way of painting a picture with words. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in the series!

Dark Stranger

I loved reading the series. I have one book to go. The first one took a few chapters to get into but from then on I couldn’t download and read fast enough.

Teaser

There were way too many storie lines introduced and not enough of the hot stuff! I got the 2nd & 3rd book at a 5$ sale and so of course was suckered into buying this one. The reviews say it picks up in the next book. I feel like the build up wasn't great between the main characters and then the book just ended. I like the premise of the story and I think it has a lot of potential. I will continue onward since I already bought the next book.

Slow plot

Plot could have moved more quickly with no need for separate books to continue the story
