About this listen

As DCI Frank Homes of the Norfolk Constabulary investigates a murder, he experiences terrifying visions of a ghostly black dog. But is the dog real?

Accidents happen, suspects pile up, and with each passing day, the case and life gets weirder and stranger. Frank's detective instincts kick in even though he feels he is losing his tenuous grip on reality....something is amiss, horribly so.

Black Dog fuses the crime and horror genres in a super-uncanny tale of thrilling action and heart-stopping mystery.

Take a step into the wild side, and go get this...

I've always been attracted to the "Black Dog" mythos, and even though I don't actively look out for the stories, I enjoy them when I find 'em. So books like Must Love Hellhounds, and even JK Rowling Black Dog (Sirius Black) in Harry Potter made me happy! And, I find that I can't resist the temptation to get a book titled Black Dog! This book didn't disappoint me either!
Starting out with a gloomy, moody setting, this police procedural features DI Frank Holmes of the Norfolk Constabulary. DI Holmes and his team are called out to investigate the murder of a young girl, but Frank's investigation takes a weird turn when he starts seeing The Black Dog, complete with glowing red eyes! DI Holmes, a man who has both feet firmly planted in the mundane world, keeps trying to come up with rational explanations... but, when his rational brain fails to satisfactorily explain the situation for him he finally goes to the internet for help... and discoverers that Norfolk, and its surrounding area has a Black Dog mythos of almost celebrity status... Old Shuck!  But just what is Old Shuck up to? Why does Frank keep seeing him? Does it tie into the case, or is it just a freakish coincidence?

Aubrey Parsons did a really fine job narrating this tale of the mundane and the mythic, for us!

This book was a bit of a homage to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Hound of the Baskerville's... And, if you like a book that's got a foot firmly planted on the wild side, you will definitely want to add this to your collection!

A hidden gem of an audiobook

**I received this audiobook for free in exchange for my own honest personal review. I will be making this unbiased as much as I can**

First and foremost, lets get this out of the way. Aubrey Parsons is an amazing Narrator. This guy will be perfect for thriller and mystery novels! My only gripe with this audiobook is that the editing is cut too thin for a good chunk of the book. I would recommend to work on pacing a bit better to reflect the tone of whats going on for the story. Let the listeners digest the more intense moments and don't rush through scenes like its a race. Cut your edits to reflect this and you'll NAIL it!

The story was very well written. Simon Corbin did a great job keeping me interested in the variety of characters introduced in the story. It felt like a good chunk of the characters were fleshed out very well. I won't spoil any of the story at all, but I wished the scenes in the early-to-mid sections of the book had a bit more of a goal for the "Black Dog". It felt like it was a plot device rather than something that had a reason for appearing at those specific times.

In short, this is a great audiobook. I would highly recommend this to anyone!

Black Dog

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I hope the author continues writing these types of books. I do wish that there was an epilogue to tie up some loose ends. The book just sort of ended. I thought the narrator did a good job. I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

A good solid police procedural

This is a good solid police procedural with a side of spooky. What's not to like.

My favourite character has to Spider the dog, my least favourite character was most definitely DCI Frank Homes, he comes accross as loud and obnoxious but he's entertaining, no doubt about that. I did think at first that he'd been transferred to Norfolk from somewhere in Essex but it seems not, it's just an accident of accents.

Aubrey Parsons does a great job with the narration.

Crime meets the supernatural

Worth a listen, especially if you like both genres. A murder and the mystery of the black dog make this book suspenseful and something you can’t stop listening to!

Black Dog

First off the narrator is awesome! When he reads a dialog it sounds like there are 2 different people talking. The story itself is well written, has characters you care about and has a great twist in the end. I grew up watching horror movies and reading horror so I thought I was immune to it. But there were a few parts that made me feel that chill on the back and made me look over the shoulder. At one point almost turned it off out of fear. If course it didn't help when my own big black dog jumped on the couch next to me!

Hope there is a book 2

There are enough reviews about the storyline. Dittos the narrator is great. I agree with the reviewer who said the book would have been even better if there were an epilogue.
