About this listen

Starting a new life in Snowdonia was always DI Ruth Hunter's dream. Until a twisted killer turned it into her worst nightmare.

Detective Inspector Ruth Hunter lives with the pain of her partner’s mysterious and unsolved disappearance. About to hit 50, the veteran police officer trades in the crime-ridden streets of London for a more peaceful life in rural North Wales. But Ruth has barely settled into her new position in North Wales Police, when the body of a brutally murdered woman is discovered...with strange symbols carved into her skin. Teaming up with an obstinate deputy, Ruth struggles to eliminate anyone from a long line of suspects. When another slain victim is discovered with the same cryptic markings, she’s forced to re-think the investigation.

Has Ruth got what it takes to solve the case before the murderer attacks again?

The Snowdonia Killings is the first book in the DI Ruth Hunter Crime Thriller series and set against the majestic backdrop of Snowdonia, a timeless land of Arthurian legend, folklore, and myth. If you like dark police procedurals, psychologically complex characters, and shocking twists, then you’ll love Simon McCleave’s pulse-pounding debut novel.

I liked the unique setting and the main character’s initial impressions of Wales and her new Welsh associates.

Character of DI Hunter

I’m doing a reread and a relisten to the whole series now that the 18th book has come out. I enjoyed this just as much the second time around as the first time around. Great series!

I really love these books!

Good story and very good performance, but the recording is odd. Sometimes it repeats, going back 1 or 2 seconds. And I have never heard an audiobook recording where profanity and racial slurs are censored out with electronic tones. It’s a little strange.

Censored?

I previously received the prequel to this book from the Author for free and fell off in loved Ruth in her Younger years! What a Kick she is!!
Great Story and Characters and I just Love the Narrator!! Can't wait for more!!

Super Enjoyed this Book !!

I’ve wanted a UK crime noir type book set in Wales for awhile now and was happy to come across this book but why, WHY, was it censored. Racial slurs are bad but if they’re relevant to the story, then let them be. I don’t need anyone deciding what I should or should not hear. Shame on Audible, the production company, narrator, and/author for allowing this to happen.

Great but censored?!?!

Audible - Shame on you!! Censoring or bleeping out words in books is unacceptable. You are not the PC police. I am an adult and have every right to listen to books without your influence. Criminals and racists do not practice acceptable PC vocabulary and the only offensive words in this book were spoken by criminals and racists. Although I find these words deeply offensive personally it is imperative that everyone understand the realities of the world we live in.

As far as the story goes it's a pretty standard police procedural with some pretty interesting characters. I enjoy reading police procedurals portrayed in the rural northern areas of Great Britain and I think this could be a good series if the characters don't fall too far into their own flaws and damaged pasts. I will give book two a try and see where the story leads.

The narrator is also very good and I enjoy her cadence and annunciation.

This book is censored!!

After listening to JD Kirk, this novel fell flat for me. Didn’t like the turn of events at the end and not particularly fond of the characters.

No thanks

The story and production leave a lot to be desired. Bleeping out swear words was very annoying, if you’re worried people might object to language just put a warning on it 😑
There was one chapter at the end where it was an exact copy of the opening of a previous chapter and I don’t know where the fault lies.
I got tired of hearing about the issues of Ruth’s and Nick’s personal problems.
There was too much time spent describing Welsh history and scenery which I would have liked except that this dragged down the thriller aspect.
The ending sucks.

Good narration, but

The narrator is great and the story itself is fantastic. However, they have censored the dialogue of the book. They quite literally have bleeped out all the profanity. I personally feel if it's an adult themed book that profanity can add a lot to the voice of each character and really makes the narration interesting. With this book the constant *beep* annoys you to the point where you just want to turn it off to make it stop. Probably won't finish this or listen to the others if I can't find it uncensored.

The Book is Censored

A censored book??? I am appalled and offended and I certainly won’t stand for it. Who made this decision and why?? This is an adult book, no kid would want to read it. Besides, they hear worse in movies, video games, social media and from each other! Demand your money back— I am!

Are we in America??
