About this listen

Daphanie Carter is thrilled that her sister Danice finally found her Prince Charming - even though he’s not quite, well, human. Daphanie is trying to keep an open mind. Which is why she jumps at the chance to enter the hidden world of The Others when a friendly imp invites her to a non-human nightclub. Daphanie’s curious to see how the Other half lives - and parties - but soon, one handsome stranger has her bewitched, bothered, and beside herself….

Enter Asher Grayson. As a Guardian, it’s his job to protect humans who get mixed up in the affairs of Others. When he spots Daphanie in a club, going head to head with a notorious witch doctor, he steps in to cool things off. Now the heat is on. Daphanie becomes the target of strange magical attacks, and Asher’s got to undo the voodoo before it’s too, too late. But soon he starts to wonder if this beautiful, beguiling mortal has put a spell on him - because every little thing she does is magic….

another disappointment

i feel discouraged i fell in love with the first book, the passion, the humor the raw need, i keep hoping to relive it in each book again in this series but sadly I'm disappointed once again, I'm not going to purchase another one just to be let down, it's a waste of my hard earned money

Wonderful book! Brings people back from other books and inspired me to read Big Bad Wolf again! Funny, entertaining and romantic! The plot is great with twists and turns also.

Good Book

Would you try another book from Christine Warren and/or Kate Reading?

I can't wait for the next installment, or the earlier installments as it is. Once you start reading this series you will realize the books are out of order. but you will find yourself wanting more back story.

Magical mischief

This book made me laugh out loud with all the sarcastic wit. Christine Warren is a new author to me but wow I am so impressed with this book i want to read and hear more. Well written and definitely worth the price. This book has everything magic, voodoo, shifters, fae, and love.

Weirdly good

paranormal, romance, the-others, urban-fantasy

While I still think that Daphanie is DTS, I still enjoyed the story. Maybe it's because I have an affinity for Marie Laveau since our honeymoon in NOLA. Whatever, it did give a lot of suspense, and sparkled with humor. Worth the money.
Kate Reading is always good

Predictable, painfully cheesy in bad ways but…

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

the narrator worked with what she had and actually she helped me carry through the second half which was much worse than the first. I only finished the book because I try to give a book a shot until the end, although I didn't really focus on the book the way I do with almost all other books.I have not heard any of the other books in the series and will not considering how bad it turned out to be, so perhaps I got the bad one in a good series, but as a stand alone, it was wretched. I rarely give such negative reviews, but this book honestly deserves it.I think people who already are enjoying the series might like it… and perhaps people who don't mind the things that frustrated me about this book-- see below. Here's what didn't work for me... 1. I hated how Daphanie was referred to as "your woman" when she and another character are involved. Sorry, I can't take that sort of terminology and it's not necessary, there are other ways to indicate they are an item.2. None of the female characters really question the men going to go save Daphanie and they are relegated first to the "nurse" position, then to the non-exist position. Cute, especially as one of the main characters in the beginning, Daph's news reporter friend (sorry I'm bad with names), is just punted to the side, and she doesn't question it. I get that the men are obviously more suited for a physical attack on the voodoo place but why are all the werewolves in the team male? You would think a female werewolf would still be able to kill a human male or female.3. Doesn't Asher have some way to contact the head Guardian to ask for help or from other Guardians? These are just the most immediate questions that come to mind.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Already finished _Kitty and Midnight Hour_, which was great.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The news reporters voice was just right. The characters sounded as they should, she helped keep the plot alive, as much as she could.

What character would you cut from Black Magic Woman?

I'd just keep Asher, Daphnie, the news reporter, one husband and friend, the voodoo priest (a nice twist to the story), and Enhrie (voodoo woman).
