Publisher's summary

For fans of Kate Morton and Sarah Waters, here's a magnetic debut novel of wrenching family secrets, forbidden love, and heartbreaking loss housed within the grand gothic manor of Black Rabbit Hall.

Ghosts are everywhere - not just the ghost of Momma in the woods but ghosts of us, too, what we used to be like in those long summers....

Amber Alton knows that the hours pass differently at Black Rabbit Hall, her London family's country estate, where no two clocks read the same. Summers there are perfect, timeless. Not much ever happens. Until, of course, it does.

More than three decades later, Lorna is determined to be married within the grand, ivy-covered walls of Pencraw Hall, known as Black Rabbit Hall among the locals. But as she's drawn deeper into the overgrown grounds, half-buried memories of her mother begin to surface, and Lorna soon finds herself ensnared within the manor's labyrinthine history, overcome with an insatiable need for answers about her own past and that of the once-happy family whose memory still haunts the estate.

Stunning and atmospheric, this debut novel is a thrilling spiral into the hearts of two women separated by decades but inescapably linked by the dark and tangled secrets of Black Rabbit Hall.

Critic reviews

"The ominous tone of this audiobook draws in the curious listener from the first scene. Three narrators collaborate, stitching together the lives of the characters in a seamless listening experience.... Buscombe, Scarfe, and Campbell create artistic portraits of each character, including the gruff masculine ones." (AudioFile)

“For fans of Kate Morton and Daphne du Maurier, Black Rabbit Hall is an obvious must-read, but it is sure to please any reader who delights in devilishly thrilling dramas." (BookPage)

“Like the setting of Robert Frost’s "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening", Chase’s novel is lovely, dark and deep." (Richmond Times-Dispatch)

Great book Go ahead and fall down the rabbit hole too.

Good adventure I have just poked my head up from the rabbit hole. Blinked and returned to present day and time.

Absolutely adored it

It wasn't what I was expecting (it was listed as similar to a series of haunted house books I had listened to, spoiler alert: this is not a ghost story). Black Rabbit Hall is a beautiful, complex, sad, and wonderful story about families, mishandling of grief, and personal tragedy. I highly recommend this book!

SO GOOD!

So worth the read! It was slow at first (you kept guessing what tied the story together), but the author did a brilliant job in tying it all together.

I never wanted it to end! The ending was bittersweet just because I wished it added a bit more on one of the character’s perspective on event, but at the same time it felt like everything came full circle and it wasn’t needed.

Again, SO WORTH IT. Don’t get stuck on the beginning because it does pick up, and the information at the start pops up again later.

Any book with this narrator is awesome!

I started following the narrator Nathalie Buscombe after listening to her read Her First Mistake by Sandie Jones. She does such a wonderful job!
This is a good page-turner mystery, complete with evil stepmother. Entertaining, perhaps a little difficult to keep track of the primary characters Amber & Lorna over space & time. Can’t get distracted.

Entertaining, Tragic, Descriptive, But NOT MYSTERY

I love this book overall.
It is exceptionally well written and the voice narration is excellent.
I fell in love with this family in so many ways.
However, there is no mystery here.
It should be classified as genre fiction and literature.
There is no mysterious element or thread in this book so it shouldn’t be presented as such.
Still a wonderful listen, and I wouldn’t ever return it.
But I don’t think I’ll be listening to this one a second time either.
Worth the time and a credit but NOT a mystery.
