About this listen

The international best seller

“A captivating mystery: beautifully written, with a rich sense of place, a cast of memorable characters, and lots of deep, dark secrets.” (Kate Morton, New York Times best-selling author of The Clockmaker's Daughter)

“Extraordinary.... Absolutely her best yet.” (Lisa Jewell, New York Times best-selling author of The Family Upstairs)

Three generations. Three daughters. One house of secrets.

The truth can shatter everything....

When the Harrington family discovers an abandoned baby deep in the woods, they decide to keep her a secret and raise her as their own.

But within days a body is found in the grounds of their house and their perfect new family implodes.

Years later, Sylvie, seeking answers to nagging questions about her life, is drawn into the wild beautiful woods where nothing is quite what it seems.

Will she unearth the truth?

And dare she reveal it?

Critic reviews

"Chase parcels out her clues slowly, without a hint of showiness. In the end, The Daughters of Foxcote Manor is not really about a murder, or a creepy house, but about families—the ones we’re born into, the ones we make and especially the ones we flee.”The New York Times

“Like Lisa Jewell’s The Family Upstairs and Ruth Ware‘s The Death of Mrs. Westaway, Chase takes a haunted house and exposes its ghosts, all those things that were hoped to stay hidden in the walls...A compelling story about how the secrets we hide from one another in order to protect actually can cause more harm than good, but thankfully, fate always has a way of interceding."Paperback Paris

"A captivating mystery: beautifully written, with a rich sense of place, a cast of memorable characters, and lots of deep, dark secrets.”—Kate Morton, author of The Clockmaker’s Daughter

Great story

A beautiful and skillfully woven story, full of both lovely and despicable characters. Very enjoyable listen

The Daughters of Foxcote Manor

Another solid 4 ⭐. I had slightly hard time getting into this audio recording in the beginning, but I am glad that I stuck with it. It was very enjoyable 😉. So many different threads that the author brought together. A family spending the summer in their home in the forest and all the strange things that happen to them... and their nanny. I recommend.

Her Best to date

I'm not sure how others rated this below 4. I am a huge Kate Morton fan and I thought this book by Eve Chase was excellent. The family mystery, skeletons in the closet, a little romance, a little adultery, oh and yes a murderer, a foundling, the mental breakdown, lies, hate, love ... Life! So many twists and turns but don't get too character because beside every chapter ending with a cliff hanger, multiple storylines continue to unfold until the very end.

Interesting story with twists and turns

In the beginning, it was a little hard to follow with all the different characters involved.

But as time went on , I began to understand each of the characters and started to really enjoy this book. It dealt with many contemporary issues and how they were resolved.

I look forward to listening to more books by this author.

Intriguing story

This was an intriguing story full of surprises. I throughly enjoyed this book. This was my first from this author and will not be my last. Narrator was the perfect choice to bring the characters to life.

Loved it!

The best book that I’ve listened to in a long time. A beautiful tale of family secrets and the bonds that last a lifetime. I was so excited as the story came together and literally had chills during the last few lines.

A bit difficult to follow

The narrator should have stated the title with each chapter (which named the girl and time), because if you didn’t look, it was hard to tell who was talking. There were so many female characters, that sometimes I had to check the chapter name. If I had read it on paper, it would have been clearer. Still, I think it was a bit cumbersome and perhaps too many narrative voices. It was a good story, but just harder to follow than I’d like and I didn’t love it as much as other books I’ve read or listened to recently.
