About this listen

In a world of varying shades of gray, the truth is always in black and white.

Seventeen years after The Syndicate trial, Jason Knettle sets out to write the shocking true crime novel on the group that ruined so many lives. With the help of a new source, he uncovers a frightening truth - The Syndicate is back...and more dangerous than ever with a new leader at the helm. The group will stop at nothing to prevent Jason from letting the world know the truth.

As the dead bodies of people connected to the trial start to pop up, Jason is called upon to do battle with his own personal demons and be the hero. Can he save the day, or will The Syndicate succeed in burying the truth once and for all?

Evolved Publishing presents the second book in The Syndicate-Born Trilogy, an exploration of what happens when one well-placed group possesses too much power and how it affects those who just get in its way.

A journalist gets more than he bargained for....

(Note: I received a free promotional code in exchange for my unbiased review.)

If you liked the action and suspense of "Red on the Run" you'll enjoy "Black and White Truth," which continues the Syndicate saga (and it goes without saying that if you listen to "Red on the Run" first, you'll get a lot more out of "Black and White Truth"). Ride along as journalist Jason Knettle tries to tell a story, but gets more than he bargained for. Hang on, because once the action starts, it's a wild ride.

As with her work on "Red on the Run," Monique Bagwell turns in another wonderful performance as narrator. Her effective use of voice and accent bring the characters to life and turn them into people that engage you and that you care about, while her narration of the action moves things ahead in a way that engages the mind and is very pleasing to the ear. Between the action-packed story and the great narration, you won't want to hit "pause" on "Black and White Truth." I'm already looking forward to what's ahead....

Black and White Truth

Narrator Monique Bagwell is at it again with the latest audiobook Black and White Truth, the second book in a trilogy, the sequel to Red on the Run written by K.M. Hodge. I enjoyed how the sequel timeline moved ahead but continued the story through characters we already knew and the main character shifted. I can't wait to see how this evolves. The narrator of the series captures Jason Nettle's struggle with his personal demons and bad choices along with his professional aspirations. I always enjoy a character that I'm rooting for one page and then the next page I'm frustrated and angry, just like us, we have depth. Monique makes the characters come alive and does a magnificent job of unraveling the secrets of the Syndicate.

Great 2nd book in the series

This second book in The Syndicate-Born Trilogy is a fast paced, thrilling adventure with flawed, multi layered characters and plenty of suspense. Jason Knettle thinks that after so many years the Syndicate has dissolved and it’s safe for him to write a true crime book about them, but he soon discovers that the Syndicate is now more dangerous than ever. I really enjoyed the evolution of Jason’s character. You can feel the struggles he goes through and the raw emotions he feels. You are there along with him as he hits rock bottom and pulls himself back up. You can’t help but want him to survive and find some happiness. The narrator did a good job of absorbing you in the story and her pace was just right, but sometimes her accent for Jason was just a bit off. This is a fast paced, well-written story with lots of twists and suspense. I look forward to seeing what the conclusion to the trilogy will bring in the next book.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book.

At first I thought it was horrible and the narrator was drunk or something, but then realized I had accidentally reduced the narration speed in my settings. Once I fixed the speed, I couldn’t stop listening. Jumping right into book 3.
