I may drive down a particularly noisy road but I felt that the style of narration makes this book difficult to listen to in a car. The narrator is perfectly pleasant to listen to in a quiet room, but the volume and/or speed of his voice changes frequently, making this book more difficult to listen to in a car, compared to other audio books.

Narrator’s voice is not good for car listening

Definitely a step up from Lady's book. It was a bit confusing so just concentrate. But it was very well written, and a solid addition to the story arc of the Black Company.

Excellent

I haven't been able to find even e book copies of any the black company books, so am very impressed that audible has whole series. very good narration, also. excited to see what else I can find here!!

my favorite series!

The Narrator fits Murgen perfectly.

MINOR SPOILER

This is the weirdest of all the novels, hardest to follow, because Murgen himself is "Lost" in time. But the narrator makes it sooo good. On top of doing Murgen's voice perfect, he does fantastic accents for Goblin, One-Eye and the Nar.

Fantastic Narrator!

I'm just writing to go against that other review of the guy hating the book and making him stop reading the series.

The narrator is great. The timeline in the story is set up strangely. But not too hard to follow and anything would be better than the book of lady.

Not as bad as the other review.

loved the fact that this is another book being told from a different perspective . looking forward to reading the next book

loved this book

exellent performance of the voice actor but the arrangement of back and forth in time of the story is sub optimal.

How this story is made nonlinear is confusing

This is not told from Croaker’s pov, which is why this narrator’s voice works. I loved the voice in Silver Spike and I love it here. I had some trouble following the story because it’s broken into dream sequences that jump around in time and location. That may work well in print, but it’s a bit confusing on audio.

Even though I had to go back and re-listen to some parts to figure things out, it put me in a position to understand how confused Murgan is, too. Don’t be put off by the negative reviews, but be prepared to be a little confused.

Sometimes hard to follow, but overall a good story with some unanswered questions

This narrator is great although some accents seemed misplaced like scottish on one eye was odd. also some stilted sentences that disrupted or changed the meaning and interpretation of what was said. his sad monotonous almost narrator voice was great for murgan and i felt fit perfectly

the story took me 2 reads to understand fully i love this book now but it can stop a series read through with its odd pacing and it starts plot wise along the last book

definitely my 3rd favorite of the black company now though after 1 and 2 and highly recommend

Narrator is good, story is confusing until reread

Not a big fan of the time hopping trope, but it was decent. My biggest complaint would be the infuriatingly slow pace of the narrator. Other than that, it’s a Black Company novel. Of course it’s good.

Pretty good
