Attorney Ben Corbin travels to Norway to settle a dispute between Karl and Gunnar Bjornsen, feuding brothers on the verge of developing a revolutionary neural stimulant that could turn first responders into superheroes. But more than just the fate of their pharmaceutical empire is at stake.
What starts as a sibling rivalry takes a deadly turn as Gunnar flees with the secret formula and Karl finds himself in the crosshairs of a bribery investigation. As Ben navigates a web of intrigue involving the Russian mob, embezzled funds, and black-market deals, he and his legal team are targeted for violent reprisals. Whoever is behind the attacks, it quickly becomes clear that no one and nothing - including the miracle drug itself - is as it seems.
Will lust for profit and unbridled ambition drive Cain to slay Abel - or will the intrepid lawyer trying to save them from destroying each other pay the ultimate price?

I loved hearing a bit about the Norwegian sagas and Norway. The reader did not distinguish much between the accents, however, so this one was not as well preformed as the last, but it was still a very good listen.
The book is about addictions to substances, work, and approval. Acker examines the psychology of this not in too much depth, but the pathology is definitely there. The characters are challenged to look at their motivations for doing the things they do, the habits they have formed, the groves they have dug for themselves which make it hard to change direction.
The book is also about two brothers at war with each other. Forgiveness is a central theme, not just between the brother, but the theme is also central to the characters as a whole. Adoptive parents must forgive and love troubled teens. Husband and wife must speak and hear truth from each other without becoming resentful. Elana must receive forgiveness and forgive herself. This a a well-crafted story with various layers.
The plot is exciting with a few twists that I did not see coming. The writing is engaging and intelligent. Faith is discussed in terms of reality, in light of how people actually behave, not just what they quote.
Both men and women will enjoy the work, especially fans of Crichton, Patterson and the like. 4.6 stars

Great Addition To The Series

The narration wasn't bad but I had difficultly differentiating all the characters at times. He's really good at the accents, but the voices were very close in character to me.
I know this got lots of great reviews and it was good enough to stick with until the end. It just didn't live up to my expectations.
