About this listen

Jessica Ames is desperate. Her college-age son, Brandon, has been arrested for murder, and the evidence is stacked against him. His DNA matches the blood and skin found under the victim's fingernails, and the murder weapon was recovered near his apartment. Jessica turns to the only lawyer she knows for help.

Nate Daniels is no criminal defense attorney; he's a highly successful corporate litigator. He also has unresolved feelings for Jessica. As her late husband's best friend, Nate takes the case pro bono, knowing he has no choice but to do everything within his power to get Brandon acquitted.

As Nate and Jessica work with the public defender to save her son, the loyalty, faith, and love between them grows into something more - even as their investigation is bringing out some very powerful and dangerous enemies...

good listen

I thought this was a pretty solid read. The main character in the story was too cool like so many are. He was successful and humble and very likeable. The narration was very good for the most part. It took me awhile to get used to many of the sentences ending with an up inflection.

Murder, intrigue, sex trade, what's not to like?

This book started out with very good plot, interesting characters, and a good dose of mystery. Along the way it became a little too moralistic, but not enough to completely ruin the story. The narration on the other hand is terrible. Mr Cronin does not do a Hispanic or Asian accent at all! Some of the characters sound like others. Overall on narration, I would give him 1 1/2 stars if I could. Perhaps better to read the book, rather than listen.

easy to follow, a bit predictable,

story on a scale of 1 to 10 would be a 6 for me. narrator has a great voice but a bit monotone.

First Rate Legal/MysteryThriller

This writer knows how to make characters real and sympathetic. A quality novel. Well written, compelling, and the narrator is one of the best in the business.

Good Book But A Bit Frustrating

This is the third book I have I have listened to by Rick Acker. Guilty Blood was a good book. Widow Jessica Aims son is arrested for murder. The DNA says that he did it. With the help of her husbands best friend, Nate Daniels who is a corporate litigator, and the public defender, can they clear his name. Danger and romance come about during the investigation.
I found the book a bit moralistic and too much praying going on. Much more than in Rick Acker other books. Having said that I did enjoy the book.

James Patrick Cronin was good with the delivery of the story

Held my interest but narrator not so good

Suspend disbelief when you listen. It was good enough to pull me through to the end even though the narrator used pretty much the same tentative voice for all the characters.

I liked it! Enough to try another Rick Acker.

Most books keep us interested most of the time. A few retain us throughout. This one managed to keep me committed. Even though I never go cover to cover in one sitting, and I did not do so with this book, I think I could have. My next book will also be a Rick Acker...stay tuned. Cheers, Ken

Great legal thriller/murder mystery...

This book is really really good. It's another one of those books I found and purchased based on the review by Wayne in NC. I'm often skeptical of the free or $1.99 books on kindle unlimited. It's kind of like any of the pay movie channels, thousands of movies but only a few hidden gems. In my opinion, this is one of those hidden gems hiding in the unlimited library.
This was a very busy book with lots going on. A son in jail for a murder he claims not to have committed and being targeted by a gang over a bag of goldfish crackers, an attorney is sent a bomb in a gift basket of chocolate covered strawberries, human trafficking in "good" neighborhoods and the home of a computer hack's parents invaded by armed men.
I did not have a problem with the narrator and thought James Patrick Cronin did an excellent job.
This book is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Solid legal thriller!

This is the third audio book by Rick Acker to which I have listened. Death in the Mind's Eye rated 2 stars. The Enoch Effect was a 5 star legal thriller with with the worst narration imaginable, so I read the ebook. Guilty Blood is an excellent novel with superb narration. Using my Kindle Unlimited account the audio book cost $1.99. I'm happy I gave it a try.

Solid Legal Suspense. Good Narration.

This was a pretty good book. I enjoyed it. A lot of twists and turns going on. Kept me guessing almost to the end.

The story line and plot were good. Even though a lot of things were happening all the time it was easy to follow along. There is mystery, human trafficking, courtroom drama and whodunit. I enjoyed the characters and the character development, I really liked Kevin the computer guy.

As for the narration, it was really good. I enjoyed it. He did a good job on the female voices and giving everyone their own voice. Very nice reading voice too.
