About this listen

Fans of James Patterson or Michael Connelly will love C. M. Sutter! Download this first book in the unputdownable FBI Agent Jade Monroe Live or Die Series.

Criminals have to answer to Agent Jade Monroe, and they aren't liking it.

On her first assignment since her promotion to SSA status in the Serial Crimes Unit of the FBI, Jade Monroe and her new partner, Lorenzo DeLeon, are tasked to southern Louisiana, where disturbing discoveries have been made. Human bones have been found in numerous sites deep in bayou country, and the locals aren’t too excited about having outsiders poking around in their business.

When Jade has a chance meeting with a local hunter, she finds his assistance exactly what she needs to break through that unwelcoming barrier. She brings him on board as their go-between. The hunter inserts himself into their investigation and gains Jade’s trust, but is he authentic, or does he have his own agenda?A bone-chilling blindside and a dangerous chase through the Louisiana swamps is just the beginning, but the question remains—is Jade the hunter, or is she the one being hunted?

“Recently promoted to a new role within the FBI, Senior Special Agent Jade Monroe and her partner, SSA Lorenzo DeLeon, are sent to Louisiana to find out why fresh piles of human bones are showing up near the swamps. With plenty of suspicious locals, including a good old boy determined to help, this adventure lands Jade in her murkiest waters yet. A delicious start to a promising new series.” (Angela M., Line Editor, Red Adept Editing)

I’ve bought worse

A very predictable story. The narration was average or below until I raised the speed to 1.2x. That is how I got through it.

Clueless heroine

Entertaining, fast moving story. Diabolical villain. Plays fast & loose with the professionalism I would expect from the FBI. Most characters portrayed as good people, nice to see that.

Bad narration

The story was good. A little predictable but overall OK. I was disappointed with the narration. It was monotone at best. I had to speed it up just to make it sound normal. I liked the narrator from the series when she was a sheriff.

Horrible narrator

Narrator had the same inflection in every sentence. Could not listen beyond the second chapter. I will read on Kindle instead

MGUN'S Review

This book cam with a lot of hype and unfortunately the peripheral characters out-shown the main female lead. Jade the FBI female lead was predictable and somewhat weak. The naive portrayal in the narration was also a contributor to the low rating. The supporting characters Renz her Agent Partner, Conway and the other Bayou Billy Bob foll all fit there role to keep pace of the storyline moving in the right direction. Hopefully whatever is next is stronger otherwise I'll be dropping this authors series.

The narrator is terrible

I really wanted to like this book. I wish I had read the reviews before I purchased this title. The story is great, but I don’t know if I can finish it.

Poor narration

The song-song narration was not good. Made the story hard to listen to.Story itself was okay.

Gruesome and poor narration

This was painful listening. The story was so grisly and hard to relate to but the biggest problem was Goettl’s sing-song-y narration that lent no real emotion or sense of building suspense, terror or even happiness where appropriate. She seemed to be reading with no ability to convey feelings, making the characters and dialogue very boring.

So instead of terror we kept hoping for some relief in the listening.

Maybe a different narrator would make this worthwhile. Not sure
