About this listen

The United States of America is in crisis. Radical militiamen are targeting hydroelectric dams and nuclear power plants, devastating the power grid. The economy, already weakened by government mismanagement, is in free fall. Food and gas shortages rock the nation. And in Washington, the US Senate is devastated by a terrorist attack.

Childhood friends Jackson Pike and Cliff “Redstone” Stone worry for the future of their country, but their life in rural Alabama hasn’t changed much. Thanks to the Pike family’s disaster preparedness, the town of Dodge is well-equipped to ride out the madness. Their main concern is for Jackson’s cousin Hollis, a page for the senator from Alabama. Hollis was present for the Senate attack and hasn’t been heard from since.

When the National Guard first pulls into Dodge, the townsfolk assume the worst of the crisis is over. They’re wrong. Under the iron command of Abraham Samuel Sherman, the National Guard begins stripping citizens of their rights, all while aggressively searching for something - or someone. Jackson and Redstone aren’t sure what motivates Sherman, but they’re determined to oppose him, his superiors, and anyone else who challenges the constitutional rule of the land and people they love.

The book was a real change from Still Alive.

Same witty characters and crass real wellplaced humor as his previous work Still Alive. Good story and well delivered by S.W Salzman.

A little bit confusing to know which character each is referring to at the start with diffrent names and nicknames. But after getting a hand of each characters mannerism and characteristics it was clear as day which one was talking about who!

Story held up but with a few gaps and questions unanswered at the end.

All and all a good book with plausible circumstances that makes it seem like a thing that could actually happen!

Really looking forward to see what comes next!

What a great read!!

While slightly slow to gain its momentum, Blood of Tyrants was an overall excellent read! It perfectly captured the “flavor” of what is today’s societal unrest, or, rather, is what many of us believe is what to come. Javon Bonds really breathed life into character types that we all know to exist today in the real world, including those of domestic terrorists. You REALLY get the feeling of “this is totally plausible, and scary!” so it gives your imagination a lot to bite into. I cannot wait to continue the saga in the next book!

Thought provoking

Good read, this book was different from Bonds other books. There is still lots of dark humor but this one was a little more serious. This one felt REAL! I enjoyed this and would read again

Another great read from the Author of Zombie Lake!

Blood of Tyrants: Free State of Dodge Saga Book One is a new series from Javan Bonds. While is isn’t about blue zombies, it is about a dystopian future and life in rural Alabama.
The book follows two childhood friends, Jackson Pike and Cliff ‘Redstone’ Stone and their families while they navigate a new world of a weak economy with attacks on the US Senate, Hydroelectric dams and Nuclear power plants. Jackson and family realize his cousin Hollis, teenage page for the US Senate, is missing after the attack. While concerned, they hear that he is okay, but no one knows where he is. Then the National Guard rolls in and sets up camp downtown and tries to enact Martial Law. This does not sit well with the Pike and Stone families, and sets up the story, with twists and turns, on what the national guard is really doing in Dodge and what happened to Hollis.
Blood of Tyrants; Free State of Dodge Saga Book One has great world building, character development and an engaging story line with some surprises that kept me engaged and wanting more. I cannot wait for Book Two!

Terrible Narration

story was good not great the plot is for sure not the thickest but it is entertaining. I was looking forward to this book but the character performance was so bad it almost ruined the entire book i wished I had have read it. the narrators normal voice is completely monotone and I would say he sounded more like a computer than someone reading an audiobook. there were times when I thought to myself I would have rather had Siri read this to me

Great book!

Javan has done it again! I'm always sad when I finish his books and he always leaves me wanting the next one in his series. S.W. Salzman is a wonderful narrator, I could listen to him all day!

Wow

This book is not Bonds usual book but he did it again. Another serious yet funny story. The scariest part is this stuff can and does happen. I can not wait for the rest of this series. Salzman did an amazing job bringing the characters ti life as usual.

Narration

Great story premise. The characters were really good as well. I just thought narrator was way to monotone. Lately i listen when i drive, and i feel like i am about to be put to sleep. If there was a little more inflection in his voice it would be a lot better.
