About this listen

'Eames once again hits the perfect balance of humour and heart, irreverent references and real emotion' Django Wexler

Tam Hashford is tired of working at her local pub, slinging drinks for world-famous mercenaries and listening to the bards sing of adventure and glory in the world beyond her sleepy hometown.

When the biggest mercenary band of all rolls into town, led by the infamous Bloody Rose, Tam jumps at the chance to sign on as their bard. It's adventure she wants-and adventure she gets as the crew embark on a quest that will end in one of two ways: glory or death.

This is amazing book. I thought it will be hard for the sequal to be better than "Kings of the Wyld" but it definitely is.
The characters are deep enough, convincing and grow with the story. The author takes time to establish their back stories and give them depth. And this is a risky move, as it can slow down the story if not done well, but it is done very well and makes everything richer.
With that said, I loved the story the most. I mean, yeah, it is the usual journey of the heroes, with the usual obstacles and sacrifices but just like in the "Kings", it is done so expertly, so emotionally fitting that one just can't stop reading (in my case - listening ;)) - immersed in the world and the challenges that the heroes go through.
Not sure if there will be a third part of the series, but so far "the band" has proven to be very satisfying and enjoyable listen.

Really struggled to finish it. Just too much. Starts out decent then goes downhill fast. :(

After the excellent Kings of the Wyld this was a total disappointment. It's almost like it was written by an entirely different author with a very different tone and a way below average story. It started decent enough, but went downhill really fast with no likeable character whatsoever. The narrator didn't help matters much with some extremely annoying and cringeworthy voices. As a whole it has turned me off the series completely, and I'll definitely skip any future additions to the series.

Total letdown
