About this listen
From entrepreneur and celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin comes a smart and spirited guide to finding your voice and creating the life and career you deserve - along with a behind-the-scenes look into Jen’s own wild and wonderful road to success.
Hailed by The New York Times as “the most influential hair stylist in the world”, Jen Atkin is a celebrated businesswoman, influencer, and stylist and friend to A-list celebrities like the Kardashian-Jenners and Chrissy Teigen. But Jen’s success didn’t arrive overnight. Her glamorous, jet-setting lifestyle came from years of hard work, humility, and hustle. In Blowing My Way to the Top, Jen shatters the illusion of effortless, instant success that permeates social media to reveal the sweat, dedication, and drive it really takes to make it.
In this inspiring, insightful, and laugh-out-loud funny book, Jen chronicles her remarkable journey and shares what she’s learned along the way. From growing up in a conservative Mormon community where girls were discouraged from pursuing their ambitions, to striking out on her own and finding success on the celebrity style circuit, to building the cult-status brand OUAI - Jen reveals with refreshing candor the lessons, mistakes, and memorable moments that have paved her road to success.
Jen also offers insight into the values that have allowed her to thrive in the modern, digital landscape, including the importance of creating authentic content, investing in community, and building social conscious into the ethos of a business. And as a trailblazer in a male-dominated industry, Jen speaks frankly about the challenges she’s faced and provides crucial advice for other women, from the importance of running your business like a feminist to building camaraderie amid the competition to learning to navigate the work and life issues that impact women most.
At the end of the day, Jen has one simple message: If I can do it, you can too. Blowing My Way to the Top is destined to become the must-listen career guide for a new generation, empowering listeners everywhere with the permission to dream big - and the tools to make those dreams a reality. Supplemental enhancement PDF accompanies the audiobook.

What does it mean to be an adult? In the 20th century, psychologists came up with five markers of adulthood: finish your education, get a job, leave home, marry, and have children. Since then, every generation has been held to those same markers. Yet so much has changed about the world and living in it since that sequence was formulated. All of those markers are choices, and they’re all valid, but any one person’s choices along those lines do not make them more or less an adult.

Like thousands of restless men left unmoored in the wake of the 2008 economic crash, Michael Patrick Smith arrived in the fracking boomtown of Williston, North Dakota, five years later homeless, unemployed, and desperate for a job. Renting a mattress on a dirty flophouse floor, he slept boot to beard with migrant men who came from all across America and as far away as Jamaica, Africa, and the Philippines. They ate and drank together, argued like crows, and searched for jobs they couldn't get back home. Smith's aim was to find the hardest work he could - to find out if he could do it.

The book you didn’t know you needed
I’ve followed Jen Atkin since the kardashian ladies exposed her to the world. She has been a business woman that has been beyond relatable but also lived the glamorous life one could only fantasize over. Her words and thoughts that have collected within this book can really help people like myself that chose the unconventional lifestyle of taking risk and owning your choices. Owning two businesses myself and having read hundreds of self help and business books I have to say Jen articulated the word of hard work and self discipline with grace and a humble standing. All in all this is a exceptional book for the outstanding business woman she has become. Bravo!

A dreamers guide
I appreciate that Jen Atkin offers her story with humility and humor. She’s a badass in her industry and yet she’s open to sharing her trade secrets and manual for getting to the top.

Fun and inspiring!
I have zero experience in the hair and salon industry and little knowledge about it and I absolutely loved this audiobook

Mhmmmm..... it's good girl.
How I blew my way to the top is literally how the author blew her way to the top and it's not HOW TO blow your way to the top. It isn't an actual insider guide of hair styling that will help anyone actually get in to the business. Rather it is a do and don't book that would be a great stocking stuffer for new and veteran hair stylist alike.
pros: The author reads very well and tells her story well. The advice that is given is practical advice that is easy to apply if you're in a space to do some self reflection or do not have a mentor. It's also advice that veteran hairstylist can use to check in with themselves to make sure they are maintaining a certain level of professionalism and enthusiasm towards their career.
Cons : . There is a lot of BS in this book and when I say BS I'm referring to when the author refers to social media influencers ,especially the Kardashians. She claims that these are good , honest , hard-working people ; whose careers were successful because they were kind to others , considerate , fair . And that everything they have done on their way to the top has been on the up n up....mhmmmm right. Obviously hardwork is the foundation of success with out a doubt but, the 'perfect personality'....no one is perfect or with out sin. It reads as " be two faced...kind in peoples face and an actual flawed human behind closed doors" Secondly the author mentions how she is a social justice advocate. Which I don't think is necessary. I find that if you are a good person who donates time to help change the world it doesn't seem like anything that needs to be mentioned in a book on how you achieved success. Being kind literally doesn't get you success. I know many genuine broke people but....mhmmmm....it's good girl!

Great advice for anyone trying to make it.
Jen Atkins narrates her own tales of making it in tinseltown and debunks all the glitz, glamor & over night success myths of making it in Hollywood A list society & as a regular human just simply trying to get somewhere in life.
