About this listen

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • READ WITH JENNA BOOK CLUB PICK AS FEATURED ON TODAY • Three estranged siblings return to their family home in New York after their beloved sister’s death in this “deeply nuanced and compelling” (Vogue) novel, from the acclaimed author of Cleopatra and Frankenstein.

“A beautiful portrait of grief and the world-shaping bond sisters share.”—Real Simple

A VOGUE AND HARPER’S BAZAAR BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR

The three Blue sisters are exceptional—and exceptionally different. Avery, the eldest and a recovering heroin addict turned strait-laced lawyer, lives with her wife in London; Bonnie, a former boxer, works as a bouncer in Los Angeles following a devastating defeat; and Lucky, the youngest, models in Paris while trying to outrun her hard-partying ways. They also had a fourth sister, Nicky, whose unexpected death left the family reeling. A year later, as they each navigate grief, addiction, and ambition, they find they must return to New York to stop the sale of the apartment they were raised in.

But coming home is never as easy as it seems. As the sisters reckon with the disappointments of their childhood and the loss of the only person who held them together, they realize that the greatest secrets they’ve been keeping might not have been from one another but from themselves.

Imbued with Coco Mellors’s signature combination of humor and heart, Blue Sisters is a story of what it takes to keep living after loss—and, ultimately, to fall in love with life again.

Couldn’t finish- Narration awful

I really wanted to listen to this book and was looking forward to it so much. I’m only on chapter 3, but I can’t keep listening because the narrator is reading with such a flat and distracting manner. It’s torturous and I can’t listen anymore.

The Performance Killed It For Me

Loved this story but PAINFULLY narrated. So much so, I nearly dropped the audio and bought the book.

A beautifully written piece about sisters and the complexity of finding their way through a year of grief and a lifetime of childhood drama around parental dysfunction and addiction. Their grief-journey provides each with a greater understanding and discovery of the others' life decisions and directions, affirming the unbreakable bond between sisters. Beautiful.

Beautifully captures family dynamics and the unbreakable bond between sisters.

I absolutely loved this novel. The depth of the characters, the poignant reflections and the very real storyline that feels both relatable and personal.

Loved the book, not the narrator

Beautifully written, well rounded novel that perfectly encapsulates the ups and downs of sibling/parental relationships. I wish I would have read it, instead of listening to it because the narrator was aggravating and distracting. Too many poorly done accents. The narrator really did not do the book justice, unfortunately. 4.75 stars for the book, 2 for the narrator

Worst Narrator EVER

What a waste of an audible credit. This narrator doesn’t do the story justice. I had to switch to reading the book. The story was enjoyable once I didn’t have to hear the grating voice of the narrator. I have now learned to get an audible sample before purchasing.

Feeling early to the party

This is my second title from coco mellors and I regret nothing. Her stories leave me feeling understood in all the important ways. She does exceptional work presenting the duality in characters without favor, and the impact of an “impartial” world on everyday people. Mellors style is distinct and yet so familiar. As I coincidently finished another book by her I rushed to see what else she’s written, with hopes to identify with another character but it would appear I am too early. This story is beautiful and I extend my gratitude to everyone apart of sharing this gem with the public

Good story and characters development

I really liked how the characters were developed in the story and how it really focused on the individuals as well as their relationships with one another. Much like in real life there is those bonds that are very different than those we share with other people. Good read.

The depth of each character.

A warm, intelligent, emotional roller coaster of 4 sisters and a dysfunctional family’s journey dealing with grief, while trying to navigate a life fulfilled.

Dysfunctional family drama; unpleasant narration

Well written "family drama" about the effect of the death of the fourth sister on the remaining three Blue sisters. Characters are well developed but sometimes a little unrealistic. The narrator is British and attempted a New York accent. The result is a very stilted, unpleasant narration to listen to. Spoiler alert: a lot of addiction issues and mention of heavy drug use.
