Publisher's summary

The Crozats feared that past murders at Crozat Plantation B&B might spell the death of their beloved estate, but they've managed to survive the scandal. Now there's a très bigger story in Pelican, Louisiana: the upcoming nuptials between Police Chief Rufus Durand and Vanessa Fleer.

Maggie Crozat, inexplicably tasked with being Vanessa's maid of honor, quickly discovers why everyone else refused the assignment when the bridezilla hands her a long list of duties - the most important of which is entertaining Vanessa's cousin, Ginger Fleer-Starke, a mysterious woman with dangerous secrets. But just days before the wedding, Ginger's lifeless body is found on the bayou behind Crozat Plantation. Now the Pelican PD and the Crozats have another murder mystery on their hands.

There's a gumbo pot full of suspects, including an ex-marine with PTSD, an annoying local newspaper reporter, and Vanessa's own spark plug of a mother. But when it looks like the investigation is zeroing in on Vanessa as the prime suspect, Maggie reluctantly adds keeping the bride-to-be out of jail to her list of maid-of-honor responsibilities.

Very enjoyable

I love reading books based in the South where most of the characters don't seem like idiot hicks, and I especially appreciate hearing a narrator who can sound mostly authentically Southern. (Of course my Southern sound is Georgia and Alabama, so I can't truly speak for Louisiana Southern, but it sounded pretty good to me. ) I will say, though, that if any person alive or dead who has ever had to deal with a bride such as is in this book, bless your heart and may you reach sainthood.😉

Well done

Good followup, crazy family dynamics, a wedding disaster waiting to happen, a romance tottering on the brink and murder waiting on the banks of the bayou.

Fun story

Easy to follow along I thought I had it figured out a few times. I did but the ending wasn’t really what I expected.

The Cursed Wedding!

A wedding has Maggie running ragged when a dead body may derail the festivities especially when it looks like the bride or groom might be guilty. A creative setting in Cajun country with intriguing characters and incredible food entwined in a fun and interesting plot makes for a great read or listen if you love audiobooks. The narrator really helps bring the characters to life with her great narration and distinct voices for each character.
