Publisher's summary

Alexis Rayne is anything but soft. She’s trained to kill, collect her paycheck, and ignore everything else. But when an old flame pops back into her life, she struggles with her emotions. Meanwhile, someone—or something—evil steals a bunch of powerful items, threatening the lives of everyone on Earth.

Alexis isn’t a hero. She didn’t sign up for this crap. But it’s because of her that these items surfaced in the first place. Now, she has to clean up the mess she made before it’s too late.

Alexis

Ends with a good ending, still a cliff hanger but it's not like she's dangling on a cliff or anything lol. But its definitely a great place for the next book to start!

I love Alexis, and while you get some origin info on her in this book. This book is makes your certain what way things are going and then makes you question everything you thought. This book also is making me super paranoid of all characters and who we can't trust.

Also random thing does anyone else feel like Mr. Mushroom and Drax are comedy gold? The are my faves!!

Alexis and Veerka

This is book 2 in the series. I recommend reading book 1 before diving into book 2. It really provides the backstory. In this book, it starts off fast, picking up where the previous left off. Alexis and Veerka are reunited. Rachel was entrusted with the Book of Origins, and loses half of this super powerful book. There is so much happening. There are twists and turns that leave you second guessing who you can trust. Story ends with a cliff hanger. Story was well developed. Characters are interesting. Narration was good.

Second Installment and Cliffhanger!

This is the second book in the Demon Employment Series, an Urban Fantasy Series. Alexis's adventure continues where the first book left off. There is a lot going on in this installment. I liked the twists and turns. The story ends with a cliffhanger, and I am Looking forward to listening to Born to Be Badass, the next book in the series. Great narration from Katrina Medina. The Second is Better!!

The second book is better than the first!! One thing that helped is that this story has an actual plot, in this case it's to help save the world. I really like that the author gave more to Alexis in this story! Alexis became more than her drinking habit and her perpetual anger (have no fear, the Angry Alexis is still there, just her other attributes can actually shine!). The trials she had to undergo really gave her to ability to grow as a character and learn more of who she is.
There were still times that I think more questions should have been asked before taking things at face value, but I still plan of reading/listening to the next book.
I liked the addition of Ace, he was an interesting enigmatic character who might have some answers for Alexis about her past.

The narrator again does an excellent job with voicing all the characters! She adds life and personality to them and does great with differentiating male and female voices.

Didn't like

I just didn't care much for anything about the book or the characters in general
