Story
When ghostwriter Maz Amani inherits a house from an uncle he’s never heard of, he offers heartfelt thanks to the universe, packs up his car, his cat, and his skepticism about mysterious uncles leaving all their worldly goods to unknown nephews, and high-tails it to a small town halfway to the Oregon coast. Anything would be better than week after week of couch surfing his way around Portland. Even if the alleged house is a rundown shack ridden with termites, spiders, and—shudder—rats, he’ll deal. Because hey, he owns a house!

Story
All vampires suck. Sterling just happens to be very good at it. Vainglorious vampire Sterling is forced to trade his big city hedonism for a trip to a sleepy mountain town, where mangled dead bodies have been discovered. Soon he’s entangled with snooty vampire nobles, territorial werewolves, and a society of law-enforcing sorcerers. The locals aren’t so bad, like the luscious young lady at the fruit shop, or the hunky electrician whose smile sends out sparks. But they’re distractions from the hunt for the mountain murderer.

Story
Something is very wrong with the Fitzwilliam estate. It was supposed to be a regular seance job. But from the minute I met an angry ghost in the hall, I knew there wasn't going to be anything ordinary about this house or its dead residents. First of all, there were way too many of them. Second, some of them had been helped along from living to dead. Third, my attempt to figure out what was going on got a bit sidetracked when I met the gardener. He was tall, dark green, and handsome. And really, really smart. So I hired him to help me figure out what was going on.

Pixies are supposed to be petite, beautifully lithe creatures with gossamer wings. Sporting luscious, ombre pink hair and fluttering pink wings, Phil meets two out of three of those criteria. The streets have been my home for as long as I can remember. To get by, I use my magic tricks, bringing smiles to the faces of adults and children alike. As a warlock, my powers are limited. Nothing like a witch's magical skills. Basically, I'm a glorified magician as well as a second-class citizen. Fine. It doesn't get me down. Leander Mast didn’t ask to come to Rivenfield, and he definitely didn’t ask to be thrust into the middle of a neighborhood battle over an ancient tree, but as a Giwoggle—who goes wherever a witch might conjure him—he doesn’t have much choice in the matter. And Leander definitely doesn’t count on getting stuck. While Leander attempts to get home, struggling against the magic keeping him from stepping outside the town limits, he butts heads with Ben, his new grumpy neighbor. Love it!
This book is short and awesome. It's a little dark, but Dustin is hilarious, and his powers are freaky and cool! I love the sentient sword! I can't wait to read more of this story!
I listened to the audiobook, and I love this narrator so much. He brings Dustin's character to life perfectly.

great UF series
The Prequel to the Darkling Mage book gives the origin story for Dustin and Vanitas. It’s a great UF series and I appreciate the author adding the audio edition to complete the series. Voice actor Luke Daniels is perfection as Dustin.

Interesting!
The story and the plot were highly engaging! Nazri Noor always creates worlds that are fascinating and enjoyable worlds to listen to.
This prequel was a fun additional story to the Darkling Mage Series, that provided additional information about our characters! Penumbra was also a good introduction to the Darkling Mage Series. The narrator did a great job too! I look forward to Nazri Noor’s future work!
