About this listen

She's reaching for a breakaway pass. Dana Campbell has spent the past seven years in self-imposed isolation for a crime she didn't commit. The danger is well in the past, but her panic attacks make it impossible to have a normal, healthy relationship with a man. Even her counselor has given up on her. She has to find someone she trusts to help her fight through the panic, or her seven-year ordeal will become a lifetime sentence. There's only one man she feels safe enough to ask. He got caught with his head down. As the captain of the NHL's once elite but now fading Portland Storm, Eric Zellinger knows a thing or two about keeping his focus on the job. Questions are flying about his ability to lead the team back to the playoffs. If they don't make it, he might be shipped out of town. It's the worst time possible for his best friend's kid sister to divide his focus. How can he give her what she needs without jeopardizing both the Storm's playoff hopes and his future with the team? It's her only chance, but it's his last shot.

5 Stars book with a 1 star narration

The book: wow it was amazing. A sweet love story of old friends trying to overcome trauma and finding happiness. It does talk about a gang rape and there is a little description. This may be a trigger for some people so be aware of that. The description is very mild though but obviously is something that is mentioned because it affected our heroine deeply. After 7 years she goes to her brother's best friend for help in intimacy because she is still suffering crippling panic attacks even after years of therapy. The love story is developed very slowly but wonderfully. I felt drawn into the story from the beginning and loved it!!!

Narration: everything about the narration was wrong. The voice was off, the tone was not appropriate, all characters sounded exactly the same and many times it felt like an instruction booklet was being read instead of a romance book. I finished up the book because the story was THAT good but I will never buy any other title by the same narrator. There is another version of this story on audible that includes the first three books in the same title. I would recommend you get that version because it has a different narrator and it will go more on par with this wonderful book.

Bad Narration

So Disappointed - I'm halfway through the book and shaking my head. I don't understand why publishers allow bad narrators. I love hockey and was so eager to try this new author and series. The narrator sounds like a much older person reading two characters lines a female and male and doesn't even attempt to change her voice. I never even know who's speaking the guy or girl. I've caught myself drifting off thinking about other things.

The story deserves to be told and I want to know what happens. Since I paid for it and don't want to buy the written version now. I sped up the narration to get through it faster.

I already bought the next two books in the series before listening to this one. I see they are narrated by someone else. I sure hope they chose better.

Such a sweet book

I loved this book, the connection between the two characters was so heart-wrenching. Their growth as a couple was captivating. I wish these characters were real people because I would love to meet them. The narrator does a wonderful job bringing this story to life! Well worth the credit!

Swoon Oh Zee!!!

First wow this is a heavy subject matter. I wasn't expecting that because I didn't read the description. Never the less the story grabs you and won't let you go. It's the narrator I didn't like; she had no emotion, monotone voice I couldn’t relate. It threw me off. This is an emotional matter and sometimes it was light and fun but the narrator brings this book down. I hate saying that.

Now the story OMG who else thought Eric "Zee" was the cuties! You could so tell he had feeling for Dana right from the get go. I don't know how she didn't see it; well I guess you could with everything she was dealing with. It had to take big balls for her to even ask him for help. But there was no one better to help her that she would have trusted.

She showed so much inner strength then I think she even thought she had. I get why Eric was so hesitant to accept what she was asking. Who wants to make someone they care about suffer even indirectly?

I think seeing her determination and drive to be better than she was really got to Eric it got to me. I was rooting for them... Then her wonderfully over protective brother comes in to play its cute and nice he doesn't want to see her hurt. But he wasn't helping. lol.

Over all I really enjoyed this book. I would even get more in the series but I don't think I will ever purchase another book with this particular narrator.

Good book, bad narrator

The story was great. At times a little drawn out. The narrator was so boring and very bland. Too monotone and no feelings. Hope the rest of the series have a better narrator.

Enjoyed the book,

but not so much the audio book. Ms. Lorraine had a nice voice, I just thought it was too old sounding for Dana.

A Hockey Story and a story of Recovery

Dana's attempt and final success at recovery from a brutal rape is cry-worthy, worth a periodic smile, interlaced with frustrated groans, and interesting enough you don't want to put it down. Great for hockey fans, but also for those whose knowledge of hockey is minimal, of which I am one. Worth a read.

Great story, horrible narration

I stuck with this because the story was good, and I wanted to finish, but this was the worst narration I’ve ever heard. I will never listen to another book by this narrator. The voice did not match the characters (sounded way too old for characters in their mid-late 20s), monotone, mispronunciations, and what was the worst was that there was no difference in voice when changing between male and female points of view. It was so distracting that it made listening to the book almost unbearable. I wish I had only purchased the ebook that would have been read eventually.

Good storyline but not narration

Good storyline but needs to be redone with a different narrator.
