Publisher's summary

From Colleen Hoover, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Ends With Us, a heart-wrenching love story that proves attraction at first sight can be messy.

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she doesn't think it's love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

I loved how it ended.

I felt like I really liked the beginning and the ending, in fact I loved the ending, but the middle dragged for me. I found the characters likable, but Miles was kind of whiny for a lot of the book. The ending made it worth it, but I felt like it could have been cut down some.
I felt the narration was very good, I did enjoy Grace Grant's performance more than Deacon Lee's. It wasn't his talent level as much as I found his voice a bit irritating. However I don't know if it's more the character, the narrator or the combination to be completely honest. I would listen to either narrator again.
If you are a fan of contemporary romance novels, I think this is worth a try!

Fabulous

Would you listen to Ugly Love again? Why?

Already listened to it again. I really enjoyed the story. Ms Hoover gets better with each story that she tells. She always manages to draw her audience to her characters.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Miles Archer because he was one tormented soul. I really like the way Ms Hoover peeled away the many different layers of Miles' character.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Miles shows up at Rachel's home to see if she is happy with her life and discovers not only has she moved on, she also has a daughter named Clare. Rachel tells Miles that he is very well capable of moving on and forgiving himself.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes I finished this book in one sitting. It was too addictive to put down.

Any additional comments?

CoHov just gets better with each and every book and she always draws her audience to the complexity of the characters in her books.

Disappointing male performance

Decent story, but every chapter with the male narrator made me cringe and wish it was over.

CoHo breaks my heart. Again!

And she does it again! Yes, I cried. Not big hiccuping sobs because I've become a pro at holding it in- but tears silently running down my face. And the part that got to me the hardest was not even the big reveal! Don't get me wrong, I had tears for that too. I can't handle a man crying though. Gets me every time.

In Ugly Love, Tate and Miles have an undeniable attraction. But Miles will only allow them to have a sexual relationship. They just have to follow the rules.

His rules
1. Never ask about the past.
2. Don’t expect a future.

Her rules
1. Don't give her hope for a future.

As things go with this kind of relationship, the rules get broken and hearts get shattered. I know a lot of people didn't like the characters or the way things played out but this is why CoHo is such a phenomenal writer. She makes you feel everything- the good, the bad and everything between. Every book that I've read of hers feels real. I may not have personal experience with the events but I feel like I do when I'm finished reading. She makes it personal, like I'm the one going through it. I just love her.

Heartbreaking story

Loved the story. Another awesome tearjerker by Colleen Hoover. Narration was good. Just the male narrator's way of saying Rachel was a bit weird but overall recommended listen.

3.5 ⭐️for the story

Initially I liked the story, however, the backstory felt like it drug on too long. The book was split 50/50 with present and past, but after a while I got bored with the past. I would have preferred learning about the past, and spend more time in the present working through Myles issues.

I loved the voice of Tate ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ in telling her POV. For an educated woman, I feel that Tate should have cut things off sooner but then I guess we really didn't learn much from her background with past relationships, so maybe being treated poorly and trying to hold out for someone she's sexually attracted to was part of her history. That got old.

Myles voice, well, his narration annoyed me. I specifically didn't like how he said Rachel's name and other phrases. It seemed too articulated and didn't flow as naturally as other books I've listened. I did like how he portrayed Cap's voice though.

As for the overall story, I was expecting something more exciting and less annoying from CoHo. Hopefully authors are not pushing out books and allowing their quality to fall. For ME, after seeing the reviews, I decided to take a chance, but I wasn't left feeling this story will stick with me like others I've read.

Big no on the male narrator

The male narrator sounds like a 60 year old gay man. It ruined the entire story for me. I wanted to fast forward his chapters it was so bad.

Good but not my favorite by Colleen Hoover.

I liked the female narrator but did not care for the male. It seemed like he didn’t fit the character very well for whatever reason. I liked the story but again, not my favorite book by this author.

Hard to listen to because...

The male voice makes it a painful listen. I haven't even finished the book but I felt the need to write this review. It's my first and will probably be my only review on here but I just thought it should be noted that every time the male reads, it's a struggle to listen to. Why is he pausing like that and chopping up the sentences? Really annoying. I'm giving the overall and story a 4/5 bevauae I love CoHo books but like I said, haven't finished this one to actually know how good it is. And the performance is a 2 because as much as I enjoyed the female voice, the male voice really got under my skin.
