About this listen

Private Ranulph Kinny swears his Mongoose - an eight-foot-tall powered armor suit - is trying to kill him. Life in the Outer Colony of Solo Nobre is hard enough, but now a mysterious broadcast blankets the city and plunges Kinny's world into chaos. The Concern wants their colony back, and will do anything to get it. Now Kinny and his power-suited platoon fight for survival as their city falls. Welcome, Brigador.

Writing from expert insight as a career soldier, author Brad Buckmaster weaves an unforgettable tale of military science fiction/action storytelling. A dark future companion novel to Brigador, the isometric mech action game, that conjures that brutal world from the street level. A must for fans of hard military science fiction.

one of the best sci-fi books in a long time

This is one of the best sci-fi books I have read in a loooooooong time.
The book is about 90% action/war/battles which I appreciated.
I would describe it as the wild/violent battles of 40k but with mechs instead of space marines.
Highly recommended. 10/10

A perfect sci fi book enhanced by a passionate performance

An amazing sci fi book that paints a gritty and gruesome picture of mech warfare. The author’s description of mech’s attacking and taking fire brings the events to life.

if you enjoy Warhammer...

you'll love Brigador. Eisenhorn and Ravenor series are the first Warhammer books I really got into and this is on par with those. some bloody non stop action. This book, that's over seven hours long, spans just a couple of days in the world of Brigador. Kinneys self defense fight was impressively written and a horrible situation to be in.

Brutal, Raw, Violent, Full Throttle

An audiobook that starts off like anything. Well established characters, each of them with their own quirks. Well explained, not much rambling to be had here. The story does hurry along in the opening chapter as it rushes headlong for the non-stop action. If you don't pay keen attention to every word it can be easy to lose track of what's what in the world. This novel doesn't repeat itself when building the world, no hand holding here. It will expect you to give it the time it deserves, and in return will give you one of the most visceral and violent hero-journey.

The voice over is also very well produced, and the narrator does a great job getting the vibe of each character's emotion in the moment. Honestly the narrator is so good he makes it easy to come back and give this a listen several times after the first time.

If you happen to know the game this audiobook is based on, then you will be in for a treat. Having read the novels based on other games. This one manages to really ground itself into the world very well.

I only wish there was more.

Its a great intro to the game and honestly could be an awesome book series all on its own. If you love this definitely check out the Brigador game on Steam.

Fantastic voice performance!

As short, hard-hitting and to the point as a tungsten round. Great battle scenes, good characterization, compelling action. In different hands this could have veered into hammy camp, but the voice performance is stellar and really pulls it off. Whether you’re here to learn more about the compelling Brigador universe or just want to read about mechsuits duking it out with agravs and tanks, this audiobook should do it for you!

good book blown out of the water by a great performance

A gritty setting with a gravel chewing narrator where it does not feel exaggerated. The humor is a touch callous, but neutral. The setting makes a few points for anyone and a great many against everyone, faction wise, where the characters have to figure out their own moral compass, if they haven't already, as they are confronted with utter chaos and war from all sides, where hardly anyone feels 2 dimensional whether its Steady Ed's pilot, a panicked civillian or a nameless mechanic.

It is a type of setting you have to happen to like, but whether you like heavy warmachines feeling both immortal and vulnerable with a focus on the people within, or a thought through warlike sci fi setting that hardly ever monologues on its history while giving a steady stream of context, this book is for you and it deserves the love.
But. If you own the Brigador game? You probably already own it.
