Publisher's summary

Ariel Kimber is a 17-year-old girl who, thanks to her mother, has had a life full of unpleasantness and abuse. And it’s about to get a whole lot worse.

After her mother meets a man online, Ariel is forced to move to a different state, leaving all that she has ever known behind. Any teenager’s nightmare. But Ariel isn’t like most teenagers. She’s different, and she has literally nothing to leave behind. No friends, no nothing. They move next door to a house that remains empty all summer long until the day before the first day of school. A school where the other kids treat Ariel like garbage because of who her mother is and the fact that she’s different from them, save for a few – her neighbors. Tyson, his mysterious uncle, Quinton, and twins, Abel and Addison. They quickly become her only friends, but Ariel soon finds out they are hiding things from her, keeping secrets from her. And she wants answers.

Surprisingly, they give them to her. What do you do when you find out you’re not who you always thought you were and your whole world gets flipped upside down? Ariel Kimber stumbles into a world she didn’t know existed, a world of magic and nothing is as it seems. Thankfully, she has the guys to guide her, to hold her hand along the way, and she is going to need a whole lot of hand-holding.

This is a reverse harem series. There is adult langue and some mature content so be warned of that.

My new favorite series

I am addicted to these characters. This is a book that you definitely won’t want to put down! The end shocked me, but didn’t. I know, that doesn’t make sense; but once you read this book, you will. This is a must read. Now I am off to start the next book right now.

P.S. The narrator is great too. The mic has a weird air in the background, but you quickly get used to it. It also doesn’t take away from the listening experience.

I am so excited so many are on audio already!

I have been eyeing up this series for awhile and once I saw more and more were coming on audiobook I decided to take the plunge! And boy was I happy I did so. I am already on Book 3 (sadly almost done and only book 4 to go - I think book 5 is being recorded so hopefully it wont be long until its ready on here.

In terms of the narration, I have seen audiobooks with Melissa as the narrator and have listened to some samples and didnt have a problem with her then and certainly dont have any now. I thought she did a good job with all the various characters. I will be checking out the other RH titles she has done previously because I would definitely listen to her again. My only feedback (constructive) is that she does a fabulous job distinguishing between the female characters, but not really with the male. I think Marcus stands out, as well as Chuck but none of the guys in the harem. No issues like I said, just ways to help improve and get it to 5 stars every time.

For the story, I really liked the premise, I am liking how the story is unfolding and that we have no idea what the end game is. In a lot of RH stories we kinda have an idea what the climax/big battle will be but that’s is not the case here. I like how the relationship building will come first it seems, while Ariel is learning about her powers and this new world she was abruptly shoved into. While listening I was ready to chuck my phone with Vivian’s antics, I couldn’t wait until she got her just rewards. I couldn’t help smiling and giggling with the relationship between Marcus and Ariel. Loved that he was treating her that way and she was surprised but inwardly happy. I will say it was a quick turnaround that he was treating her like a surrogate daughter which seemed a little shady to me, so I was waiting for the other shoe to drop and my theory to be blown to bits haha. I am happy with this first book in this awesome series. I am looking forward to listening to more and probably reading the novellas in between waiting for book 5 to be ready.

100% recommend this book, just be prepared for a slow-burn romance. I am listening to book 3 and not a ton has happened sexually for the guys. So many adorable moments, gonna get back to listening now!

Good Series

I normally only rate the audio books and skip the written reviews; however, in this case I feel the book deserves a written review.
The first book is kind of hard to get through. I found myself zoning out and having to rewind several times. The FMC seemed to switch between the intelligence and inter dialog of a 14 year old and a 25 year old. The internal dialog seemed to be a bit extensive and that seemed to be where I zoned out.
The story line and world building was very good. It is very easy to become invested in the characters, and the characters are well developed. This is also a VERY slow burn. If you are into the sex seen more than the story then this isn’t for you.
By the end of the first book I jumped back on audible and bought all of the other audio books that were currently available. Unfortunately there is only the total of 3 books available, and each book kind of leaves you hanging.
In short: is this series good enough to spend a credit on? Yes, but keep in mind that there are several questions at the end of each book that is not answered and I am sure that since I have finished the third book this pattern will remain throughout the series. Keeping this in mind if you don’t mind waiting for each audio book to be released to get answers then it is well worth it.

Great beginning

Great beginning for a wonderful series. Book one follows Ariel Kimber, a 17 year old girl with an abusive stripper for a mother and no idea who she is or that she has magic.

Idk

I think the story could have been a lot better. It was interesting in the beginning but I think the main character and supporting characters could have had a bit more emotion to the storyline. The ending was kinda dumb (no spoilers) buttt I think the author could have come up with some strong dialogue at least for the female I get she’s been hurt..but I was expecting a lot more from her especially in the end and the guy as well. I’m gonna wait to read the second and third book.

Seems drawn out…

There are some oddities in the writing; overly repetitive phrases within sentences. Also, the habit of calling other characters by their familial relationship status or gender. The twins calling each other “Twin” is off putting. Or the harem calling each other “Brother” or the fact everyone except Marcus calls the FMC “Girl.” It takes me right out of the story.
I do like the more real feel of budding feelings amongst the harem. Not everyone is on board/falls in love right away. There are awkward moments and concerning behavior, but bearing in mind they are all teens and young adults, it makes them seem believable.
I enjoy the premise, the foundation for a good story is here. However, it is taking a long time to get to the meat of the story. If the pacing and vernacular were a bit better, I could’ve given it 5 stars.
As for the narrator, I am so glad she didn’t overdo it and try for a deep masculine voice for the MMCs. She changes her timbre enough we know she is reading a guy’s line without making sound put upon or fake. She did a good job with the material she was given.
