About this listen

The Greatest Western Writers of the 21st Century

On the run from the law

Kate Coldane has sweated blood for this saloon, and she won't let it go down without a fight. Silas Atwood may be the richest rancher in Hudspeth County, but that doesn't give him the right to push her around. When Atwood sends one of his goons to cause trouble at her watering hole, Kate's son, Rusty, guns him down. It may have been self-defense, but Atwood is the law, and that means Rusty has to run.

The law's got nothing on justice

Rusty flees to the home of his uncle, Pearlie, who straps on his six-gun, intending to return to Hudspeth County and clear his nephew's name. But Smoke Jensen, the mountain man, won't let his friend ride into certain death. With a handful of brave souls, Smoke storms the town, ready to wage war against more than two dozen of Atwood's blood-hungry killers. Drunk with power and afraid of no man, Silas Atwood believes Smoke Jensen can be stopped with brute force alone.

Problem is, Silas Atwood doesn't know Smoke Jensen.

Great read!

I love this series, and wasn't disappointed. Wm. W. Johnstone and J.A.Johnstone weave a fine story, and a happy ending to boot.

Good Western For the Whole Family

What did you love best about Brutal Night of the Mountain Man?

Smoke's determination's to help his friends.

What other book might you compare Brutal Night of the Mountain Man to and why?

None come to mind.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Sally meets the fellow on the road who wants to kill her. LOL

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It had humorous and touching scenes, but I had no real extreme reactions.

Any additional comments?

Silas Atwood, the richest rancher in the County, has the Town Marshall, Judge and most of City Council in his pocket and surrounds himself with fast guns who if their collective brains were dynamite there wouldn't be enough to blow their hats off.

Drunk with power the extremes he goes through to get Katy's saloon is outrageous; believing himself beyond the law he thinks he can force anyone to do his will. The outcome of his efforts to kill Smoke and his wife had me shaking my head.

I like books with humor, and whether it's meant to be humorous or not I found it to be so.
All in all I enjoyed listening to "Brutal Night of the Mountain Man" and think most people who enjoy westerns will like it.

Great performance by Jack Garrett.

This is one of the best books I have listened to about Smoke. This one has Smoke and Pearly along with Cal and Sally . There fighting the outlaws in Smoke Jensen style. This book definitely holds your attention all way through the book. I highly recommend this book. Jack Garrett does an excellent job narrating this book.
