Once every year, Perley Gates and his brothers lead the Triple-G crew on its annual cattle drive. It's a treacherous journey along the Great Western Trail, with a herd of 2,000 cows on one side and many opportunities for trouble on the other. This year, trouble shows up in the form of a beautiful young woman, her little baby, and her bizarre traveling companion - a colorful old cuss who goes by the name of Possom Smith. They're heading to a settlement called Butcher Bottom, and risking their necks to get there. Perley - being the gentleman he is - offers to escort the trio to their destination. But there are a few minor details they "forgot" to tell Perley....

The woman is a widow whose husband had enemies. The old man is hiding a small fortune that might get them killed. And Perley is stuck in the middle trying to decide who's good, who's bad - and who deserves to die first....

I kept avoiding this series thinking it sounded silly but its actually fantastic. I started at the end and worked backwards....glad I did

These books have all the excitement without as much gore and violence as some of the other Johnstone books. Plus there are female characters to round out the stories.

Thank You for writing your books and Doing your Books on Audiobooks format!!! My Mom introduced me to this Author Three Months before she Died. It was this book here. But to the point Each one of the books brings the same ways of leaving this world to engage in another time to be within each of “William W. Johnstone”
Now to This Audiobook Narrated by “Danny Campbell!! “He Gets it 100 percent of what the in Doing and Continues Within the Narration to allow the hear’s to experience more in depth emerge in the story!!!!!

I like a western story of fair play direct common sense solutions, courage in the face of danger or intimidation met with a happy go luck demeanor backed up with cowboy skills and “not to be provoked” lighting like reflexes.
There’s something like a quaver in the voice of the competent and talented narrator that works well with various characters but becomes a little distracting over time.

This is an excellent book. it's about a guy named pearly Gates and he gets into all kinds of fixes. Danny Campbell narraites it. it's perfect . exciting. there is shootouts it has everything you want in a western. Pearly is a good guy that tries to do the right thing for everyone.
